I've seen these guys fight many times, can't describe how awesome and exciting both of them are, true ELITE fighters who always put on a show. I'm a huge fan of Eubank and admit I disliked Benn back in the day as I always wanted Eubank to be victorious. What do you guys think about the rematch?, I honestly agreed with the draw and can't pick a winner even though I WANT to give it to Eubank, what Benn did can't be denied. What do you guys think of the fight?, to those who haven't seen this guys, I highly recommend watching ALL their fights. I've always admired both though again I repeat I've always been a Eubank fan and with that, for some reason, hating Benn had to come with it back then though I love Benn now and respect him as an A class fighter. Thoughts about the fight and who did you score it for?
I thought Benn edged it, I liked Eubank more than too, but, looking back, Benn throughly deserved it, he was more aggressive, throw a lot, hit harder, and Eubank was frustrating. I felt Eubank lost by a round maybe 2, but it was close. If Benn had won, it would have surely led to a 3rd fight, but Eubank was so frustrating, he rarely did what he was capable of, instead choosing to do ''just'' enough, which cost him against Collins, a fighter he should have beaten.
i was a huge benn fan cant remember how i exactly scored it but had Benn winning a close fight ,strangely one of my favourite eubank fight was against anthony logan eubank looked really good in that fight and controlled it
this is on my top 10 fights to sit down and watch first fight is an all time favourite and i feel guilty never seeing the return.
Benn could mix it up with anyone, from any period in and around his weight, he had some very big names on his resume, and was tough as nails, I'd say his skills weren't elite, but he was an elite fighter, he beat G-man, if he beat RJJ, then he'd have been labelled elite, and the chances are, he would have beat RJJ. Eubank had the skills, but not the desire.
I've got the Nigel Benn career set and trust me you don't wanna see his fight with Juan Carlos Jiminez, it was awful. The fans started rioting in the cheap seats. Benn was great but sometimes when I watch a few of his fights I just wanna see a more complete boxer who uses lateral movement etc (Which for me is Oscar De La Hoya). Eubank had many great fights but he had some real stinkers as well, his mentality was often to just get through a fight, not be impressive to the crowd. I realy like them both though and I thought Benn's aggresion deserved him the victory.
I think he had the desire up until the second Watson fight but there is no doubt that took something away from him.
It's very hard for me to not consider guys that perform like that and give it their all for every fight not elite. They both had serious skills too and could have given anyone serious trouble. Even though I would pick RJJ in his prime over them I would still expect them to give him a decent fight even in losing. Prime RJJ is probably the only one I would easily pick over these two for obvious/logical reasons, I would honestly pick both to give James Toney hell if that fight was made. Just look at how Benn was OUT in the first round against McClellan then came back to do what he did, yeah I know the referee was corrupted and all that but Benn's desire is what kept him going, not the referee, that's elite mentality/will right there. You don't have to agree with me of course and I'm not asking you to, that's just the way I see them and I'm very happy to see them that way.
I've never re-watched Benn-Euband II but at the time I thought the draw was fair, especially with Benn getting a point taken off him.
Being able to Mix it and win are two different things. Very big names like who ? James Toney, Roy Jones, Nunn, McCallum, Kalambay ? they are/were big names. I cant consider the McClellan win a real victory for obvious reason's. Doesn't make him bad fighter that i dont consider him elite though.
I thought Benn just edged it. It was close though. Disappointed that Benn didn't go more to the body because in the first fight those shots totally ****ed Eubank up. Benn said he knew how to hurt him and I thought he was going to the body more for the second fight but I guess he never got the opportunity. Check out the prefight show that they did, with the signing and stuff and Lights Out on a satellite feed dissing the Brits and their mums. Hilarious!
