He would easily be able to make cruiserweight today so there would always be that option open to him. Henry is a bit of an enigma. Many people thought that he was on the same sort of level in terms of ability as Ezzard Charles and Joe Walcott when they were juggling the title between them. If they are right then he should be able to pick up a belt at heavyweight and pose a serious threat to the top men of the division. He is one of those fighters like George Godfrey or Cleavland Williams that gets rave reviews from their peers but for various reasons never realises what is expected of them.
There is film of Henry out there. Watch Henry vs Satterfield and Henry vs Baker I, I own both copies. He is very impressive. John Garfield described him as an "Electyifying Puncher with both hands". Not only does henry display brutal power and finishing skills in the baker and satterfield fights on film, he also demonstrats fast hands, natural skills, and great athleticism. A fight between He and Marciano in 1951-1952 would have been a war while it lasted, and its a shame it never came off. Clarence Henry is the only fighter I ever felt Marciano's camp feared. The New York times at one point rated Henry "On par with Heavyweight Champion Jersey Joe Walcott and top contenders Ezzard Charles and Rocky Marciano". Quite the compliment to Henry. Henry was rated in the top 5 in the years 1950-1952. Henry took a bad beating from Archie Moore in 52 and was never the same again, suffering a detached retina and eventually going blind. He was no more than a walking corpse against slade and jackson in 54. But Clarence Henry in his prime was something. A top 5 heavyweight contender of the era, and he would have been dangerous in any era with his Punching ability and natural talent. Would he compete today? Most certainly yes. He would be a Top rated Contender today as far as im concerned and would pocess a huge stylistic issue to Wladimir due to Henrys speed Power and agressiveness. I have no doubt he would beat Clusmy giant Valuev, and he would give an old vitali all he could handle. Henry would be THE man at cruiserweight and a top dog in the heavyweight picture. Imagine a durable version of David Haye and that is what you got with Clarence Henry. There is film of Henry out there....WATCH IT!
If Haye was semi durable and had stamina he would unify the heavyweight division. These are the only factors that can hold him back. Stamina and durability.
Janitor...next time you get the chance, purchase Satterfield-Henry. for the 1 round it does last, you will not be dissapointed. Both fighters are down...Henry eventuallys knock bob out cold with a killer left hook. The baker finish is equally as devastating(Baker looked good himself and was ahead on points)...Henry wallops baker with a left hook then throws a 6 punch flurry until baker falls through the ropes flat on his back out cold.
I will have to check them out. A lot of people on this site dismiss Bivins Moore and Johnson at heavyweight because they were former light heavyweights who relied on technical skills but they all seem to have gone up against some horendous heavyweight punchers and held their own.
