Over at scene boxing, after much debate , the WBC diamond belt has finally been approved... they all finally agreed they could put it up for the cotto vs. pacquiao fight...

They try to make it so dramatic, like they didnt create it for that exact purpose.. for money :patsch

    notoriety i suppose

the IBO came out and said they are willing to pay for Cotto's WBO sanction fees if TR would allow their welterweight title be on the line in the fight.

If the WBC were truly genuine in their attempt to legitimize this frivolous title then they should have campaigned to invoke it as a stake in the PBF-JMM fight which takes place nearly a month and a half prior to Pac-Cotto; not that I'm defending the general idea of the creation of this belt in any regard. It seems to me that the idea of this title was specifically conjured to appease the turbulent negotiations between Pac and Cotto and to take advantage of the hesitation of Cotto's WBO title being included as a stake. The whole idea basically comes off as the WBC found a new way of giving Pac an opportunity to be recognized as their champion and of coarse to suck out some money while doing so. The whole thing reeks on every possible level and I'm hoping that this illegitimate title gets phased out sooner rather than later.
