Bernard Hopkins. And this is coming from a big RJJ fan.

Bernard is one of my favorite fighters, but Roy Jones, Jr was just a fantastically amazing fighter--one of the best ever. I think people tend to forget how great he was in his prime. Go back and watch the Roy that fought John Ruiz and all the fights before then. Then watch fights after that. Something is different about him starting the first Tarver fight. He just is not the same. He was 35 years old then and he had gained and lost 20 pounds or so of muscle.

Beating Adamek would never impress me more than moving to heavyweight and embarassing Ruiz. **** if Roy stayed at MW then Oscar never would've fought him. Tito would have but Tito has the heart of a lion.

As I remember it Hopkins was only considered as an opponent for Trinidad in that 160lb tournament, and he shocked the **** out of everyone with the win, he had a few defences against average competition and little guys, lost to Taylor twice and he's been hit and miss since then. I like the guy a lot but to say he's better than Jones on an ATG basis purely because he's been a better fighter than Jones after the age of 35 is nonsense. Is he better than Ray Leonard too, Leonard was ****ed from the age of about 33 onwards...Hagler retired at 32-33, maybe Hopkins should be above him as well? Foreman regained the heavyweight belt at an age at which Ali was a shuddering wreck, I guess that makes Foreman better than Ali too :huh

To top all that, I still think if they did fight again, Jones would win again - I wouldn't pay to see it though because it's an irrelevence now, just like Jones V Lacy was. I'd sooner see Hopkins fight Toney at this point, that would be far more interesting.

Well apparently in that recent argument the two of them had, Jones offered to fight Hopkins again with the winner taking 60%, Hopkins refused, Jones then went on to say he'd fight him winner take all - Hopkins refused again and said Jones was 'talking crazy' (according to a poster, I've not listened to the interview yet)

It is consistent with Hopkins behaviour in the past whenever a rematch is brought up though, he thinks he's worth more than he is. Even this version of Jones is worth a bigger cut than Hopkins purely because of their previous meeting. Jones is big enough to say "60% to the winner" and Hopkins still isn't interested?

That tells you all you need to know, I'm afraid.

If you think Bernard Hopkins was in his "prime" in 1993 you need your ****ing head examined.

 

I think Jones would win again, but I wouldn't be as confident as I was in their first fight all those years ago. However look at Jones defeats since he became 'shot'....the styles of fighters that beat him were nothing like Hopkins, absolutely nothing like him.

It's all well and good Hopkins bragging about his win over Tarver, Jones has a win over that guy too remember....and also Hopkins has been given massive kudos for his Pavlik win yet I honestly believe even at this stage Jones would deal with Pavlik just as easily as B-Hop did. That's just opinion obviously, the bottom line is "will they fight again?" and the answer to that at the moment is "no" and the only reason for that is Hopkins ridiculous demands, not Roys. As I said before, that speaks VOLUMES.

 

Do you not think fights with Adamek or Dawson are meaningful matches for boxing though?

What we do know is that every time the re-match has been brought up since, Hopkins has ALWAYS been the one to ***** out of it for financial reasons.

 

Of course they are....but the Jones fight would be a bigger event, even now, do you not agree?

Who's stopping the Jones rematch from taking place? Because I tell you this, it sure isn't Jones.
