Pavlik denying Williams, boxing fans Thursday, August 20, 2009 | Print Entry Your weekly random thoughts. … This whole Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams postponement/cancellation is a mess. I just hope the fight comes off this fall, even if it looks a little shaky. After a long, tough negotiation, one of the year's great fights was supposed to be announced at a formal news conference Tuesday afternoon in New York. Pavlik's manager, Cameron Dunkin, and much of Top Rank's staff were already there awaiting the arrival of Pavlik and the Williams camp. Then, on Monday afternoon came word that the bout was postponed, according to Top Rank. Promoter Bob Arum and Dunkin said Pavlik had a staph infection on a knuckle on his left hand (something he supposedly has been dealing with for months) and that the bout would be delayed. At first, Top Rank announced it would be pushed back to Nov. 21 (a date it had cleared with HBO and the venue, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.). Then it was amended to Nov. 21 or a date in early December. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected When I called Goossen to ask about his take on moving Pavlik-Williams to Nov. 21 or into December, he was noncommittal and kept referring to the fight being "canceled." When I asked him about being amenable to Williams facing Pavlik in December, he was measured in his response. "Paul last fought in April, and we all want him back in the ring in October because he can't just sit around. He needs to fight," Goossen said. "We have no problem fighting Kelly Pavlik. We never have. That's who we all wanted to fight, but it might have to wait until next year. Does it makes sense for us to say we'll do the fight in December when we don't know if Pavlik will show up and we don't know the extent of his problems?" Arum, on the other hand, assured me it would all be worked out this week, though it's pretty clear Arum himself isn't pleased with Pavlik. He and Dunkin both said Pavlik missed at least three doctor's appointments and that the fighter didn't finally see a physician until just hours before he was supposed to leave for New York. Why would a world champion with a multimillion-dollar fight in front of him miss three appointments to have his hand checked? Remember, Pavlik makes his multimillion-dollar living with his hands. It seems like very odd behavior and, quite frankly, highly unprofessional.
This is interesting cause Dan is the same guy that bashed Paul Williams before the fight was a done deal. But my question is to you booradly, How do you know for sure Pavlik went to those doctors appointments? Cause it seems to me that Pavlik didn't went to those appointments. I mean damn Dunkin and Arum both say he didn't. <<<<<Both Arum and Dunkin would not made it up cause Arum is Pavlik promoter. Dan made a great point that is close to what i said "Why would a world champion with a multimillion-dollar fight in front of him miss three appointments to have his hand checked? Remember, Pavlik makes his multimillion-dollar living with his hands. "
I bet Rafael had a mustard stain on his shirt from a sandwich on that little rant he just made. Im also starting to believe Pavlik does have personal problems. We havent heard from him or his team in a while.
wheres pavlik nuthugger extraordinaire booradley? **** this ****. i want PW to knock out pavlik, then this happens
Kelly is a broken man. His lack of self-confidence is obvious from his actions and words over the past year.
I dont know what to believe about Pavlik. Those rumors of him having a drinking problem are starting to seem pretty valid. This behavior is very odd and indicative of nothing positive. Something is wrong with Pavlik. What it is, I dont know, but these string of events simply cant be dismissed.
The thread's been up for like two hours and it's the middle of the night in the States, so steady down. Besides, I'm all for a good Pavlik trolling, but there are no points in this thread that booradley and Hermit haven't already addressed in others. If you're really interested in their response, it's already on the board.
Hermit already responded saying the reason Pavlik didn't went to those appointments cause all the doctor care about is "money" in which Pavlik didn't want to pay. And hermit say the reason i'm on his ignored list is cause i'm an idiot? I think i just proved that hermit is not only an idiot but a very biased Pavlik fan.
Hey booradley, read this from your buddy Dan Rafael ( you post a thread about Dan comment when Dan bashed Williams) This content is protected This content is protected
:yep But actually yes.. much of it. Contrary to Lacy where the 'ruined' thing is just a way to psychologically reconcile the idea that so many were wrong about Jeff at the time. In fact Jeff has never beaten even a genuine top 10 fighter at SMW. His best wins are Tsypko and Manfredo and both came after the Calzaghe fight. However, Pavlik actually had beaten real and geniune class before Hopkins. He beat a skilled fighter in Taylor who had twice beaten Hopkins and a proven top 5 p4p (over 6 rounds at least) fighter. So if he does turn out to be different (we do not know yet) then I think some of it can be put on the Hopkins farce. :good
