You can see how overwhelmingly the forum reagards him as the #1 though.

I know that. But I wonder how honest the forum is with the voting. Favoritism should never trump objective reasoning.

For example, would you pick Jack Johnson to defeat Liston, Holmes, and Lewis? I think most people would have Johnson with a losing record vs these three, yet Johnson very close to these three in the poll who was the 3rd best heavyweight.

Do the 18 voters who picked Johnson #3 really beleive this, or are they just voting becasue they like him / dislike the others? I tend to prefer the public polls here so you who voted for who. IMO, these polls are a bit more honest.

At the risk of sounding brusque, if you genuinely believe that bias infects this forum to such an overwhelming degree - and we have Charles by an absolute landslide - why do you post here? I think this forum is wonderfully free of bias in general and people tend to see quite clearly.

On a personal note, I feel we have the right #1 and I feel the margin of voting is reflective of his excellence at the weight.

The poll doesn't ask for a top 10 head to head, rather a top ten described by a poster's own criteria.

...this IS a public poll. The one that has described Charles as #1 at 175. So was the one that described Johnson at #6 at HW.

I wasn't talking about Charles here. The quote was related to Johnson. The forum offers too much to ignore bias. Do you really think the forum is wonderfully free of bias? I can't say I agree with you. Bais and double standards are part of the forum. I suppose every web forum more or less experienced the same.

I have no problem at all with Charles being #1 at light heavy. I just think Tunney, Langford and Fitzsimmons would beat him.

I think there are many posters who are interested primarily in the truth. I think the guys who are biased stick out conspicuously.

Poor old Jack gets it in the neck again :patsch
I wonder if the forum would have been accused of being biased if Jeffries had done better in the poll?:rofl

I would have several of these in different places, but all in all they are the ten I would pick,so ,I think thats all anyone can ask.
It sems a shame Johnson and Lewis ,and maybe Delaney could not make the cut,but I wouldnt leave anyone out to make room for them so I am very content. A good job done by Rumsfeld.:good

There is no truth with these lists. Just opinion.

In this case I would argue that poster's tend to submit lists that they believe reflect the truth rather than lists that reflect personal bias.

How did you put Moore before Charles ? Charles KO'd Moore and twice beaten burley who beat moore and better success at hw and managed to go the distance against a fresher marciano , took the title from joe luis while moore was struggling with the likes of burley , maxim (whom charles beat so many time) , etc.
putting bob foster and not doug jones ? jones stopped foster and unlike him went the distance (should at least got a draw if not a win) agaist ali who KO'd foster.
Langford should be higher , Greb and Tunney are somewhat in place.
and the rest in your list are also more than debatable - you forgot :
qawi , tarver , soon (2-3 years from now) it probably be dawson , william lawrence stribling ?
