I see the WBO introduced their european title earlier this year. Can anyone see unscrupulous european promoters (I'm looking at you Mr Warren) steering their fighters towards this title as an alternative to the EBU? :think zsolt bedek is defending his super-bantamweight WBO euro title shortly on ZDF (on the undercard of balzsay - steiglitz). The only other WBO euro title holder is heavyweight denis boystov http://www.wbo-europe.com/champions/
Didn't even know this title existed until now I could see the German promoters going for this as I guess it'd bring a high WBO ranking like the EBU gives a good WBC rankings. This is just some fake shitty Euro title anyway. The EBU is the true Euro title.
I don't think Warren would go for it. His fighters get high WBO rankings without fighting for WBO inter-bull**** titles
don't know...i think at one point kevin mitchell was practically trying to "unify" the various inter-continental titles i think warren will lap it up...nice niche title for his fighters who aren't quite EBU or WBO world level, and would rather not risk putting into a british title fight
they would as undercard fights i suppose. macca - lebedev was for the wbo intercontinental (although sky didn't show it live!)
The EBU should then create a world title Most world champs these days are European - 147 is the highest weight without a European world title holder
We don't want another world title But isn't that how it worked in the old days when a few fighters had 'claims' to the world title so you'd have the NYSAC recognised champ, BBBofC recognised champ and EBU recognised champ?
This title doesn't worry me too much, I don't think it will gain popularity. The EBA(European Boxing Association) however, which is I believe a WBA initiative does worry me a little. I feel that over time we could end up having more than one European title if that thing ever gains any prestige. Once you've got 2 it's only a doorway towards having even more titles.
