Ah well, Ezekiel, that's ruined our excitement! I remember Icemax was telling you to tuck your chin in against Jennings as well so it wasn't just me who thought it might be you. I stand corrected:good.
for those who are a member on boxrec Dean Powell has posted a reply on a simular thread defending his words.
Yeah, he never boxed. He says it in the interview. He was a gym manager at some london gym and worked with a lot of pros.
Slaphead can go **** himself; the great irony is its him that produces gross mismatches which affect the marketability of the sport. If forums didn't exist I doubt I could be bothered keeping up with the sport. Browsing through news sites is hardly the same.
Perhaps if he read the forums.... he would realise, as many people have said, that his (or those of his company) are seriously affecting boxing in Britain. We see too many fights where it is a young prospect vs 'someone unbeaten' or 'never been stopped' - I would rather see a young kid fight a Laszlo Komjathy or Emanuel Augustus type, rather than the joke Frenchman brought over for DeGale's 2nd fight, or the Eastern European types that we have been seeing lately. As Jeff has posted several times previously, if the kids are matched with British journeymen, you can compare form lines. For instance, if Fighter A struggles with Kristian Laight and receives a gift decision that only a blind guy like Michael Alexander can give... then it doesn't suggest they are doing a great deal. If Fighter B decks Laight three times in the first round, forcing the referee to rescue him... that would suggest something different.
SORRY i just read your post, here's Powell's post from boxrec: To All Forum Users, I am writing in response to this post, regarding my interview with Terry Dooley on Friday August 21st in Boxing News & http://www.boxingnewsonline.net The point that i was trying to make to Terry & maybe it came across wrong, was that i dont like the use of this or any other forum to be used as a vehicle for personal attacks or sometimes absolute slanderous remarks about myself or any of my fellow proffesionals. Terry will tell you himself, that he & i sat down a long time ago, after he himself had made some very tainted comments about myself. he agreed whole heartedly with my points raised in our discussion & admitted that some of his personal comments, not just about me, but other fellow proffesionals, were somewhat below the belt. I totally agree with all of you that this & and any other forum used in the correct manor, is a real great vehicle for you the boxing fans & fellow proffesionals to air your respective views & opinons. Regarding the rest of the interview, there were many points & great stories that i did no get the chance to put across. particularly regarding the network of fellow matchmakers & agents, whom without their help & assistance over the years, my job would have been impossible. Phillippe Fondu, Johhny Bos, Olaf Schroder, Graham Lockwood, Terry Toole, the late & great Ernie Fossey & Dennie Mancini, John Ingle, Harry Holland, amongst many others are people whose help, assistance & knowledege has been invaluable, both past, present & i am sure the future. My time @ Panix was also invaluable & Frank Maloney gave me the chance to work with many fighters, which toghether we formed a good team & turned into champions including JAMES OYEBOLA, MICHAEL HOLDEN, MARK POTTER, CHRIS OKOH, PAUL LLOYD, MICKY CANTWELL, PATRICK MULLINGS to name a few & also together helped many other boxers become good proffesionals. One of my most memorable & happy periods was working alongside Franks brother Eugene, who was a real likeable rogue & a fantastic character. He put so much effort & energy in developing his shows, particularly his Sunday afternoon promotions The Elephant & Castle, which drew a fantastic following & carried on into East London @ York Hall. Eugene also gave me a lot of help & support during the breakdown of my marrige, something that i will never forget him for, his friendship during that period was invaluable & i even stayed with him & his family for nearly six months !
