Was Michalczewski poor or julio Ganzalez that good?

....when Dariuz lost to Julio Gonzalez.

I remember Roy Jones treating Gonzalez like a sparring partner a few years prior to Michelzewsk's fight with Gonzalez.

For someone with a great reputation like Dariuz, how did he lose to this dude? did he get exposed...and prove that he wouldnt have been a challenge for Jones?

I want to see this fight too. It was very interesting result back then. I remember reading reports saying that Michalczewski got old over night, but I never saw that fight so I can't confirm it.

I personally think if Jones and Dariuz fought it would have been like Mayweather Hatton.

It wasn't overnight, the defeat was definitely a while coming. He got hopelessly outboxed by Derrick Harmon before stopping him in what seemed a particularly strange fashion before losing to Gonazalez.

Dariusz was well past his prime at that point, anyone who followed his career knew he had been on the decline for several years by the time that happened

That fight means as much for Dariusz's legacy as Jones getting KTFO by Glen Johnson means for his. Gonzalez and Johnson actually had a real tough fight and Gonzalez edged a decision

DM was seriously on the slide. Pretty obvious by his retirement and the fight that followed as well.

The guy was over rated. He had a tough time with b level fighters his entire career. He won alot of fights on what one could call QUESTIONABLE stoppages at best when losing rounds or fights. Gonzalez was a decent fighter but b-level non the less. He was big and strong and had a great chin. DM was on the slide when the two fought he was no where near as good as he was when he beat Hill, but Im not sure that it would have made a difference. I thought that Gonzalez won 9 rounds, and would have likely out did DM even in his prime

Michalczewski was a strong slugger with almost 50 fights uder his belt. He had a ton of mileage. Gonzalez was tough and fresh.

I scored it in favour of an old, slow Dariusz - as he was snapping Gonzalez's head back with power jabs all night. Gonzalez lunging off the back foot, not connecting too cleanly. Perhaps good that DM lost, as he needed t hang up the gloves and being 50-0, 20whatever defenses are gaudy numbers for him.

Dariusz was on the slide by the time JCG got to him, but IMO styleswise, would have been a great fight regardless.

It was a great shame he and Roy never got it on... both have that little nagging question mark hanging over them, despite being lock HOF'ers.

Dariusz beat world class fighters Barber, Hill (unified champ), Griffin, Rocchigiani (2nd fight) all of whom are better than Gonzalez.

The Dariusz-Gonzalez fight was very close. A prime Dariusz would decisively ground down Gonzalez into dust.

Dariusz had a powerful jab and an accurate, if undrused right hand. He was so strong, though a little robotic and slow, and he maintained a fierce pace.

Julio is one of the most "passive" sluggers I've seen. He spends way too much time on the back foot, on the ropes (as with another debatable win of his, v a prime Glen Johnson). He couldn't live with a peak DM, but boxing is ALL about timing.

"Tiger" was basically a very good fighter - elite from 97-00 - who was allowed to make money way past his sell by date, struggling on with WBO belt in disappointing performances vs Hall (twice, good fights though) and Harmon.

Barber was a clubfighter. I just dont understand why DM fans always try and past that guy off as a good fighter he wasnt. He never even beat a top 25 fighter. His best win came over Anthony Hembrick, who lost to none other then Richard Frazier, the same Frazier that was a police officer that Jones got so much heat for fighting as a mandorty, Hell he even stopped him in the second fight...Barber was fighting in high school gyms and civic centers in front of 45 people before he went to Europe and beat a couple of bums over there. Rocco kicked the crap out of DM in the first fight before DM put on the acting job of the decade to get out of that fight that was ruled a NC but later changed to a win for DM. Dariusz hide in Germany and failed to fight guys on that next level outside of a few fights, with Hill, and Griffin, with the Griffin fight ending in one of those questionable stoppages.

Hill was on the slide when DM beat him.
