Monzon never handled the relentless pressure Fernando brings to the table. I say Vargas runs him over in 10 rounds in a painfully one-sided fight.

You think? I basically see it as a blowout in favour of the more modernised mexican.

call me crazy but i fancy Monzon in this in a dramtic upset.

I see Monzon using his speed and fleet movement to out box Vargas onhis toes throwing fast flurries

Monzon handled Valdez and Brisoe, I think he could take Vargas.

haha nice. i see vargas' heart taking him to the 12th. monzon loved the torture guys, let them hang on and beat the **** out of them while trying new things. within the first 6 monzon would have clearly established his jab and the distance and then right hands would close vargas' eyes and sheer will would carry him to the final round before it's stopped

i think monzon abuses vargas and either wins a lopsided UD or by late TKO. vargas was very good in his prime but no where near the technician monzon was. imo vargas cannot even compare with monzon and it would be a good ass whupping by monzon.

why because i think one of the greatest middleweight champions in history would beat down on an overrated vargas? yeah, i think vargas was good and he did alot of heart but he quickly petered out as a viable boxing contender. there can be absolutely no comparison between the two!

I think it would be a solid tussle.

Vargas was a sawed off, roided up SMW or LHW even. From everything I've ever heard he was one of the strongest fighters at his weight class, ever.

Certainly not going to show how Monzon would do against bigger men and he'd win regardless, though.

this is true in that vargas was very strong at his weight class. however i think junior middle was his best weight; i really don't see him having the frame to compete higher. the best vargas, the one that fought trinidad, would still be too raw and too light to really take it to monzon. he wouldn't be able to pressure him and he'd be ouboxed thoroughly. well that's just my opinion
