Incredible fight in so many ways. First off you got 2 MMA legends facing off in a dream fight at the time with legitmate hatred towards each other, 2nd the staredown is the kind that sends chills down your spine and 3 it was a complete and total war. This is one of those occassional fights that both men leave having left everything in that ring, Frye had his ankles destroyed and Shamrock messed up his knees and neither guy was a factor in MMA agian at a high level. Also it was a competitive fight unlike alot of hyped fights and then you got them burying the hatchet at the end which is always great to see.
Don Frye is THE man. How he made it out of that fight il never know. His ankles were torn to ****. Frye is such an old school throwback. He loves nothing more than to drink talk **** ( his column in the IFL was excellent ) and fight. Iv never once seen him in a boring fight. Even when James Thompson was handing him his ass it was fun to watch. But the Takayama fight is by far the best. I remember watching clips of some of the PRIDE fighters watching it backstage they were going ape****. The fans went nuts. Takayama's face was a mess! You'll NEVER see a fight like that in the UFC
Great fight and as Scurlantings said Frye is the man and he is always in great fights. I saw James Thompson in Bolton a few months back, quality guy might i say, and he commented on the Frye fight as being very hard.
