Its the nature of the scores that make it a joke. 115-113 is the only possible score you could have for Diaz winning the fight and that is giving Diaz a huge benefit of the doubt in times when he landed minimal punches and fought on Paulie's terms.
I had it tied up after the 8th and I was being generous to Diaz, but I saw for sure Malignaggi taking control of the fight in the last 4 rounds. In my eyes, it was a robbery. And I was rooting for Juan Diaz to win. Malignaggi earned my respect with his post-fight speech. Malignaggi should have won, at the very least gotten a draw.
I know that, but people are going beyond just the scores themselves. 115-113 was not a bad score though.
I had it 116-112 paulie...yes it was competitive....but what makes this go under the category of robbery....is the punch stats were ridiculously in favor of malignaggi... he schooled diaz, worse in boxing then marquez did....marquez just had enough power to finish the job.... this was clear cut robbery...
So you think it's a robbery? A casamayor vs santa cruz in my book is a recent robbery I wouldnt class this fight anywhere near that.
If the judges had said 115-113, 115-113, 114-114 or something like that I would have been like ok. Diaz got the benefit of the doubt in a few rounds. But given that it was 116-112, and 118-110 it leads me to preclude that the judges were in the books for Diaz. When the scores were announced I immediately said "damn Paulie won" beause im a Diaz fan, but having it go Diaz way it proves how bad the boxing business is in texas.
Paulie controlled the majority of the rounds IMO. You could make a case for 115-113 to Diaz because some of the rounds were close but that's as far as you can give it... and could be considered as being generous.
It means that Calzaghe was a slapper who never lost. So to say that not landing any power punches should result in a defeat is inaccurate. Jabs count as well and Paulie landed many.
**** I think Holyfield vs Valuev would be also consider a bigger robbery than this-if you were to call this a robbery.
diaz landed his best punches on the inside which you couldnt even see half the time....paulie landed his jab all night and his right hand landed cleaner then anything diaz threw.... and the punch stats seem to agree...they were lopsided in favor of paulie....it might have been close judging rounds but it was clear as night and day paulie won
I dont agree with the 118-110 but the fight was close enough for either to have won. So I dont have problem with the outcome of diaz winning. If it was 115-113 116-112 and 112-116 with diaz still winning would you call it a robbery then? Diaz still wins the fight but the scorecard is more agreeable?
Calzaghe's got 32 knockouts vs Paulie's 5. Paulie's power game is nonexistent. Juan was landing many heavy hooks.
