Be shocked if this fight hasn't been done before. At flyweight, who takes it? Both little British fighters. Wilde has many more K.O's but from what I've seen Lynch seems to have more technique. He seems to slip punches with just a quick head movement and still be in range to throw a devastating blow back. he also uses the ring well, coming back off the ropse to land heavy artillery. Of course, there is probably no 'prime' footage of Wilde available. Whilst he faced much bigger guys (and stopped them) I think Lynch probably has the best single win between them; Peter Kane. Only 19 but 44-0, renowned as a truly hard hitter, Lynch destroyed him. Lynch has got about 50% K.O record, but it's clear he hit much harder than that indicates. Wilde however, as we all know had 99 stoppages and a lot of these came against larger opposition (if slightly dubious, though that may be due to incomplete records) If we say 15 rounds we know that Lynch was still murderous late on, plus Wilde had been more than that, 20 rounds at times and still won. Does The Mighty Atom split Lynch into particles? Or does Lynch put the chokes on Wilde? Most of all who would win it on points? This is a distinct possibility as although both are known as scary hitters, they are also known for their durability in their primes. I have always liked Lynch in this. I think his boxing skills at long range can trouble Wilde who is quite aggresive. I think Lynch can pick his shots well on the advancing Wilde and when Lynch hits ya you know. I think Wilde can draw him into a bit of a shoot out where Jimmy would want it and drop Lynch but it would make Lynch concentrate on his boxing again. Lynch UD 10-5 or 9-6
I'm just not sure how to take Wilde to be honest. He seems just that; Wilde. I guess it'e because there isn't any decent footage of him. I know he's held in very high regard but Lynch seems technically superior. I'm sure someone could shed some more light on this. Any Wilde aficionados that could explain Wilde's style; maybe just because the chap he's fighting in the above clip is bigger but he just seems so open. Lynch could throw straight punches well, though I'd expect both of them to hit the deck at some point. I'm not sure where to go but I honsetly think there IS a chance of a stoppage. Not sure either way though.....I guess I go with the guy who looks better on film, Lynch. How good was his win over Kane? Only 19 but he seems to have trumped Lynch in the rematch (admittedly have only seen HL's) but only given a draw. Kane was reputedly a big, big puncher so this proves Lynch's chin big time IMO.
Wilde from what i can gather was an offensive boxer/puncher with a huge punch and he was quick. Had very good refelxes also. I agree Lynch is more technically sound
Hmmm.....would like more opinions? How do you think Lynch would do against other ATG Fly's Pater? Too old school, or would his toughness and sheer power bring him through? For two very recent examples, Donaire and Darchinyan? I personally think he'd spark the pair.
I really rate Lynch H2H think hes an exellant boxer and puncher. He has a great chin and never got cut so i dont see any Flyweight stopping him in a prime for prime match up. I think his skills would adapt well to the modern game. He kept it at long range with his straight punches at excellant left hooks. He also had great reflexes that was wonders for his defensive radar and head movement. Also he used good lateral moveemnt combined with a good jab. I see someone like Perez out fighting him on the inside and someone like Canto out boxing him but its just tlop tier guys like them i can definitly pick over him. Lynch vs Chang would be a great fight actually i think i'd edge with Lynch just so. As for Donaire and Darchinyan i think he would KO Darchinyan Donaire would last longer and might even go the distance but he is untested so i wouldnt like to definitly comment.
Wilde to win by stoppage, Lynch the better technician, Wilde the better fighter, Wilde could give a punch {3rd best puncher ever according to ring}, he had a particularly good body punch, he could also take a punch, he had heart, determination, nous, and had an incredible will to win, that is why Wilde went 101 fights unbeaten. Wilde was far more exposed on the World stage, fighting Americans home and away, Lynch never fought outside Britain, infact nearly every fight he had was in his home country of Scotland and nearly all were domestic fights including losing twice to Southpaw Jimmy Warnock from Northern Ireland, he lost one fight in Ireland and one in Scotland. If Wildes career had been stalled by the war, Lynchs was ruined by drink. Allthough Lynch was only stopped once {his last fight} I think the Mighty Atom was in a higher class and I take Wilde to win with a late stoppage.
He won the the World, Euro and British titles in Manchester, in two rounds. I agree with you that Wilde has a stunning record, but please don't use any of the farcical Ring Lists to back it up. What is it about the styles that favour Wilde? All I'm seeing here are tidbits ripped from Boxrec.
As I did in the recent thread, I definitely favour Canto over him. I think he might drop Canto once or twice but Canto was far too skillful for Lynch. He would be able to evade most of the big bombs and run rings around him, although Lynch was awkward and could throw from angles when you least expected him to throw. Canto could be hurt, I don't think Lynch is all at sea but I go for the proven stylist.
Canto would definitly outbox him but Lynch would probably drop him once or twice but have limited sucess. Yeh Lynch had a good use of angles especially when finishing some one off
Again, be interested to see what other decent posters think of this. Agree with Pater and myself? Or would even Lynch struggle against the bombs Wilde would be throwing?
I might lean towards Wilde here. Lynch starting better, he was not the easiest to hit, this was due to combination of his fast movement, and the old 'good offense bing a good defense' that does apply to certain fighters. I do think there might be a turning point in the bout though, where Wilde would hurt him and take over, this fight would definitely get gritty and this would occur at such point imo. Wilde to take over then and win a close decision due to a few big rounds swaying it in his favour.
Good post Teeto :good shame we don't have much decent footage of Wilde, might be an easier fight to gauge then (either way)
