DM didn't want Jones, he never called him out, Jones was the champion and P4P#1 and the fighter to beat. DM didn't call out Jones or did anything to suggest he really wanted the fight. Btw Jones schools him by a dominant UD.
No... I know a lot of European queers thought DM had a chance at the time, but they're dead wrong. He wouldn't have stood a chance in hell against a vintage Roy Jones.
I have to correct you ,DM did call him out and was even wearing I want Jones shirt during his fight ..But here is one of the offers I heard that DM said he wanted the lions share at the time something around 3 mil to him and Jones 1 mil something like that ..He was vocal about Jones but had no intentions of fighting him on neutral ground .
Dariusz was a top level fighter for a couple of years, mabe 3 years. He was a high quality, strong as hell pressure fighter. Then he fizzled out and struggled on with a crappy WBO belt. In an ideal world, Jones should have challenged him because he was the champ, having unified WBO, WBA, & IBF belts vs Virgil Hill. When Hill was well regarded. However, boxing politics and all. It didn't happen. Given what Jones did to Hopkins (at 160) and Toney (at 168), then it's not a stretch to say that he could do Dariusz at 175. There is of course the bigger risk at 175 pounds but ultimately I think DM wasn't fast enough. However, why give Jones credit for something he didn't do? No dubt you ppl will also say that "Jones wood dof beat Jirov and Juan Carlos Gomez if he'd of gone up to cruiserweight"...When ppl were really big on Jones, they were saying he would beat Lewis, also. I think DM does deserve more respect on here. The gimps that you see going on about Ring belts and Lineal champs - well, Dariusz was one, going by what he accomplished, but was never recognized. Michalczewski was considerably better than Glen Johnson (gas over the last 4 rounds, cry robbery) and Tarver (who had a weight weakened RJJ in front of him in fight one and barely tried to do anything about it). He might not be as good as Roy Jones, but he had some excellent wins (Hill, Barber, Griffin, Rocchi rematch) and was in better FIGHTS than Jones was in. Let's say Jones had gone over and beaten Michalczewski - you can't take DM's achievements away from him, and you'd big up Michalczewski in order to acknowledge him as one of Jones' big wins.
Meh, it seems like a bs offer just to outprice himself out. i think Jones had already said that he wouldn't fight outside of USA, I bet if DM actually made a fair offer and intended to pursue the fight, Jones would have fought him.
Would have been like Hatton and Mayweather all over again. but a wide UD for Roy, Dariuz is a tuff guy but people forget how Jones speed/power was sensational in his heyday it really intimidated fighters. I think ROy hits plents hard enough in his prime to ease Dariuz aggression.
Clearly, from reading your posts on this page, you have absolutely no clue what you are on about. DM called Jones out every fight after Jones beat Griffin. DM's people offered Roy 5 million (which was a lot in the 90's) to come to Germany. Not an untouchable offer by any means, but a reasonable one. It was Jones who never mentioned DM, until one day in 2002, when DM looked like a shot fighter in his win over Richard Hall. Roy called him out shortly after that. Personally, I would have given DM a hefty punchers chance against Jones, mostly because of his iron chin and incredible stamina. If DM won he would have done it Taylor-Froch style. That said, Jones was so incredible in his prime that you would have to lean towards a Jones decision win in a competetive fight.
If jones's leftovers a man he dominated every minute of the fight went over there and beat Him then Darius prob wouldnt of stood too much of a chance...
