Ive never put the two together, but this is a pretty smart summary. I will say this: Shane looked faster and sharper against Margarito. I think he may have taken Mayo a bit lightly and wasnt the best he could be for him like he was for Margarito. But, yeah. His game plan was pretty damn similar.
We have to keep in mind that Mayorga on the night of the fight came in at 170 pounds, and by all accounts he actually had a good training camp for this fight and he is a very awkward opponent so that is some reasons why Shane had some slight troubles with him in the fight. And overall it was a competitive fight but not a close fight, all Mayorga was doing was just holding and trying to make the fight as ugly as possible in which he was successful at doing.
I think if Margarito ever, ever, ever fought trinidad at any point...... Trinidad would of ended his career. Imagine Tony hooking with trinidad like he was doing with Cotto...lol.
It wasn't Margarito's speed that was so good it was his high punch output and that he could keep it going for 12 rounds, gradually breaking the body down of his opponents. That fight was not sloppy at all. Shane didn't beat Margarito out of sloppiness. Look back at Marg/Cotto and Cotto/Shane fights. Shane fought the perfect fight, timing Margarito and using his aggressiveness against him and landing perfect right hands, not to mention his use of clinching which was not letting Margarito get his game going on the inside. It was masterful. The Mayorga fight was a sloppy performance by Mosley. Mosley went in there to bang it out with Mayorga and ko him early. He learned that Mayorga is very underestimated and that's the perfect style Mayorga prefers his opponents to use.
Which is why I think Shane's getting old. Loading up and haymakers and clinching? That's not prime Shane at all. Shane was a superb boxer who dominated with speed and explosiveness in his better years. I thought Shane looked old in both fights, although he still garnered enough skills to pull off the win.
If I remember right in the Margo fight, Shane was falling off balance from overloading some of his shots and missing. I thought it got pretty messy. I'm sure if you watched any of Mosley's fights before the Forrest fights, you would see a huge difference also.
Well of course he's getting old, but Shane still has enough juice left to beat some stellar opponents so you have to respect him for that. Although to tell you the truth, I think those Mayorga and Margarito fights would have looked a lot differently if Mosley had not been able to clinch so excessively. That's just my opinion.
He definitely has enough left and is proving that. I like him, but I think if he does get his fight with Pac or Floyd, he's going to look very old.
Mosley looked noticeably faster and sharper in the Margarito than he had in the Cotto and Mayorga fights. Just Shane himself. But he looked noticeably faster and sharper in the Collazo fight than he had in the Vargas fights. Part of that has to do with the weight - he's looked his best at 147 - but his timing, intensity, and reactions were clearly lacking when he fought Cotto... Nazim Richardson has been an improving factor, but generally, for the most part, Mosley is up and down. Those who have been following the sport for a long time know to recognize this type of trend at the end before the very end, of a fighter's career.
toatally agree, mayorga makes most fighters look sloppy, marg just took some corckers on the chin and it didnt hold up
