Stieglitz looked pretty fluid in the way he was letting those punches go. That was a good win for him. I've always kind of liked him so it's nice to see him pick up a belt for his troubles.
Balzsay had a similar problem against Inkin where he looked really tired. I'm kinda surprised Stieglitz was the one to pull it off but I had concerns about Balzsay's stamina.
Same feeling here. Though in the Inkin fight, it was Inkin who gassed worse down the stretch, if memory serves.
Just rewatched Balzay-Stieglitz... What a give and take fight. If they were both American it would be a sure FOTY candidate!
Yup. One Russian tired down the stretch and the other Russian got stronger and gained momentum as the fight went on. I suppose one can call that symmetry.
i watched the fight and it was the first time i've seen balszay and the 2nd time i've seen stieglitz (the other time was when he was on hbo getting his ass handed to him by librado)... it was a good fight, honestly the guy that impressed me more was balszay, he's definitely got some skills, southpaw, good boxer, accurate combinations... too bad he's the hungarian version of jermain taylor in the stamina department... good fight, well worth seeking out, another good one in a weekend full of entertaining fights
To be honest I think this is a good analysis of the fight. And I agree. Although Stieglitz's heart was impressive.
That's right. Balczsay looked like the clear winner commanding the fight, quick, very good footwork, landing good combos, with a lot of snap. However, suddenly he just faded inside one single round. Went into round 9 looking ok, then suddenly started staggering and dropping his guard since he couldn't keep it up. Perhaps he has the same problem as Erdei. That one was also thought of having "bad stamina", because he would actually look drunk in the last round or two. Later it turned out that Erdei has a health problem that requires a certain diet, and since he does that diet, he doesn't fade anymore.
My observation is that Fritz Sdunek fighters have serious stamina issues. Erdei - issue for some time now. Alexeev - all the talent and power in the world, out of stamina and stopped by a clearly inferior Ramirez. Dimitrenko - some impressive skills and gifts, but stamina and mental issues. Balzsay - boxing beautifully, winning most rounds, but running out of energy all of the sudden. I know Sdunek was seriously ill, maybe that has an affect in training, maybe it's just a coincidence and these fighters are not gifted enough physically, but it's like a pattern this year, they are getting upset by fighters they supposed to beat and they all train in the same gym.
