I gotta go with hype. The fuy is fat, has a porous defense, telegraphs his punches, has never fought a top-10 fighter... what is it that lets these untalented sluggers who fight tomato cans get hyped all the way to a championship bout? Remember how hot everyone was on Samuel Peter? He turned out to be a fat slug too. Peter showed more than Arreola ever has. I can see no reason to believe Arreola will do anything except take a vicious beating in the ring come September 26th. Look at his faults:

    1. Poor defense
    2. Lack of high-ranked opposition
    3. Marginal technical skills
    4. Slow footed
    5. Poor conditioning / lack of motivation

What strengths does he have? Power? Perhaps, but I suspect that is somewhat over-rated. Does he have George Foreman power? No. I doubt he even has Sam Peter power.

Why are people on this guy's bandwagon? Desperation because there are so few really good HW's out there right now?

Hell, anyone has a "puncher's chance" unless you are Chris Byrd. I think this fight is going to be a one-sided beatdown that will look a lot like the Sam Peter / Vitali Klitschko fight.

he's an indicator of how shitty the heavyweight division is right now. Not a monster by any means but definatly capable of holding his own and beating a lot of the top guys. that's more of an indicator of how badly they suck than of how good he is though

Agreed with the first part, not sure about him holding his own and beating some of the top guys - even with how limited the top guys are right now.

I guess the division was good when Mike Tyson was knocking out heavyweights that looked like wide receivers. Or maybe it was good when the baddest man on the planet got his ass handed to him by Golota.

    He's neither.

He's a fat warrior, nothing more, nothing less.

I doubt it. Americans just can't get over it that America can't produce a heavyweight.
