Yes they are alot of blind and bias people that watched that fight. To believe Cotto only won five rounds is hilarious. Even Mosley knows and admitted he lost that fight, but he switched his tune just because Cotto lost to Margo and he dominated Margo. Cotto clearly won the fight and Shane got a fair break in that fight with the close scores.
Not every post is going to be perfect. If the overall message is valid, I can't neccesarily get crazy over incidental details.
Eveyone is entitled to their opinion. Well, in your case, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as they agree with you. Personally, I scored the fight a draw. The two people I watched it with scored it for Mosley. Merchant also scored it a draw. There are numberous other national boxing writers who also scored the fight for Mosley. Both guys landed the same amount of punches, and Mosley landed more power shots. I have no problem with anyone scoring it for Cotto. However, I don't believe that Cotto clearly won the fight.
I don't see the true point to this thread but its not to say its not valid or thought provoking? Cotto is an excellent operator who edged elite status because of the level of competition he has squared off against especially in recent times. Problem is Cotto has looked more human than superhuman as most fans hold a high standard for boxers who are considered top tier. It was unhealthy for him to stay at jr ww yet he dominated with his strength and he seems a bit smaller that the average ww therefore he is forced to utilize his above average skill and technical capabilities more than a fighter of his mentality should. The man has faced a great deal of obstacles in his career yet he stands out because of his fortitiude, a strong fan base and of course his haters...without haters who would he have to keep him sharp, motivated and ever aware of his status. So to the thread starter, more power to you and your opinions are more than welcomed in my book.
How didnt McNabb live up to his potential? He was booed when he was drafted by Philly. Sense then he has been to 5 NFC championships and a superbowl, while maintaining the highest TD to interception ratio in league history. :huh
Same goes for you, you said Darryl made two excellent post which were full of glaring holes and inconsistincies but Kirk makes a great post with the facts laid out and you did'nt call that an "excellent post". Larry Merchant also scored the second Mosley/Forrest fight a draw so I would'nt use him as a reliable source when scoring a Mosley fight. You have to take Compubox numbers into context at times and this is one of those times. Cotto landed more jabs than Mosley that snapped Mosley head back while Compubox numbers say Mosley landed more "power punches". But if Ike Quartey in his prime would have fought someone like Malignaggi, and lets say Ike lands 5 jabs against Paulie while Paulie land 10 hooks against Ike, who would go down in Compubox as landing more "power punches" ???......It would be Paulie but we know it does'nt tell the whole story.
ive always thought miguel was good but in my mind he's well short of great too many glaring weaknesses jeeze i watched the fight with n'dou the other day and n'dou caused him loads of problems and had him on his bike late and this is lovemore n'dou people
Concur. People are blinded by Cotto, I was once. He has the look, he has the style, but he has weaknesses that can easily be exploited by a competant boxer.
I didn't read Kirk's post, that doesn't mean I don't respect his opinion or believe that he has a valid argument. Because you feel he got it wrong in regards to one fight then all of opinions from there on out aren't credible? I don't know about that one Benny. Benny, I don't agree with your analogy. Paulie is a featherfisted fighter who barely throws any power shots. Any power shots he does throw barely phases his opponent. Mosley's shots were clearly having an effect on Cotto as his face was busted up and he was retreating by the end of the fight. This is a pointless discussion anyway. You feel that Cotto definately won that fight and that there isn't an argument to be made that he didn't. Nothing I say is going to change your mind.
N'Dou is the type of fighter that Cotto will struggle with. He can take a punch and he has heart. If you can take a punch, and you have heart, you can compete with Cotto. If you can punch as well, you stand a good shot at winning.
A lot of other replies have pretty much pointed out the "flaws" in your little analysis, so I'm not gonna touch on that. THIS THREAD IS RACIALLY MOTIVATED. Are you mad because Cotto, or any other non black fighter, is getting more love than someone like, hmmm PBF??? YOu touched on cotto's lack of defense, stamina and all that but you forgot to point out that he only has one questionable loss even with all his flaws. If anything, he is better than what YOU make him out to be.
Benny you are the MASTER at "MIS-QUOTING" me. I never said Cotto avoided anyone...I simply said if he wouldv'e fought the fighters I mentioned...It would make his fight resume Better!!!! PLAIN & SIMPLE. If you dis-agree, explain...enlighten me. Insults, name-calling adds nothing to the debate. Be good.
