Why didnt monzon ever go up to lightheavyweight?

Quite possibly because Bob foster was there.

 

Yeah, I had that issue at one time...Monzon was revealed to have had some kind of deal going where he was marketing and selling tv's and stuff, and apparently reversed himself on the subject of training young fighters. At first he said he would do it, but obviously changed his mind. He was still a presence in the Argentine world of tv, commercials and movies, until the abrupt and untimely end of all these activities with his crime.

 

I know that Fraser Scott was disqualified in his bout with Nino Benvenuti and that his grandmother knitted his boxing trunks and robes...but that he was dispatched by Monzon. He also, if I remember correctly, had 2 tko victory's over Denny Moyer (?)

 

As people have already stated. Monzon is the greatest middleweight of all time IMO. But a middleweight is precisely what he was, hence the wise decision to remain there. Conteh would have spelled trouble. And Foster.......

Like Hagler feared Mike Spink's might right hand? i don't think so. Some fighters just have the sense to stay put in their ideal division.

 

Not only was Monzon ideal for 160, but like Hagler after him he was also fully aware and conscious of the division's historical richness and what he was trying to accomplish there. The MW Championship it could be argued, is second only to Heavyweight in terms of prestige.

 

It's a relevant question, but staying at middleweight and dominating is alright too.

 

I once had the pleasure to ask him. Monzon said '**** that ****!' and then he knifed me, took my wallet, and smoked a cigarette while I bled out on the floor.

 

Did you get an autograph before or after he stabbed you ?
