Except that Leonard had been winning the past 11 years whereas Ali had lost to nearly every top contender the last 4 years. He was even warned not to go thru with the Holmes fight.

Nobody warned Leonard not to go thru with the Norris fight. When it came to who they were going to go with, Norris wasnt given a second thought.

So this wasnt anything like the Ali-Berbick match even tho Leonard has always been compared with Ali since the day he turned pro.

How does a fleet footed Leonard dancing no stop in the ring with Duran resemble a punching bag laying on the ropes with Holmes?

    he doesn't.

    wrong comparison :smoke

Hagler was unbeaten in 11 years and everyone was warning Leonard not to go through with the Hagler fight, then Leonard beat him by 12 D , yet you discredit Hagler as being washed up like I do with Leonard in the Norris fight :patsch

The fighter of the 80's was between Hagler and Leonard. One had better wins and was not as active, while the other had longevity with a 7 year reign. Depends what you like.

Well of course that's true. Something I knew about 3 weeks before the fight started but that doesnt mean Ray did not perform well.

He performed well enough to get the decision

so if he beat Hagler with no tuneup and 3 years of ring rust Ray Leonard can only get better with the activity that followed.

That's 11 years without a loss and picking up 3 titles since his so called prime.

I honestly dont see how Ray can be compared with Ali from the Berbick fight

I did'nt compare him to the Ali of the Berbick fight I just used that as an example that just because a boxer beats a past his best fighter does'nt mean he would of beat that boxer at his peak. Leonard was faded if you can't see that then you really have no true knowledge of boxing.

The hilarity continues. Rooster has now resorted to selling his bull**** to someone who joined the foruim in June, 2009.

Keep goin' Rooster, pretty soon you'll have to have your sites set on the graduating class of 2010...

To put Leonard's loss to Norris in perspective: How would a 34-year old Robinson have fared against that version of Norris? I wouldn't at all be surprised if the outcome was something similar.

And comparing to Ali: Ali even at 34 was just a pale imitation of his former self. Compare the Ali that met Young to the one who fought Terrell. They're on different planets.

RJJ was only one year older (35) when Tarver put his lights out, and so on and so on.

Leonard wasn't shot against Norris, but it sure as hell wasn't the Leonard of the early 80's. Not even the one who beat an ancient Duran and "drew" with Hearns. He was getting on in years, pure and simple.

Still, no one had beaten Leonard like that before. So credit where credit is due.

if it were bs, you would have had a successful argument against it long ago.

Sorry kid, you're not in my class. Come back when you got something to say.
