That's due to companies not running properly more than anything else. Affliction was able to sell out in California, something that a select few in boxing have been able to do recently. Fedor/Arlovski had more asses in seats than Mayorga/Mosley did. They just had a HORRIBLE business module that is destined to fail if you don't have empty pockets of money. Elite XC did better ratings on TV than boxing has. **** not only that but boxing can't even get on CBS. That's frightening fellas. Dream in Japan had about 30,000 people in the stands in their last event (I believe the actual number is 29,500). Pride had 91 THOUSAND people in the ****ing Tokyo Dome for their LAST event. Those companies didn't fail because they didn't make money, they failed because they paid their talent more than they could handle, they got tied up in failed business ventures (Pride coming to America was a big mistake) or they put their baskets in one person and failed when that person failed aka the current boxing module (EliteXc with Kimbo, Affliction with Fedor). The UFC a) doesn't rely on one person, b) has an outstandingly effective business model and c) has the best marketing machine in the world. ....See where I'm going with this?
If your argument is that they'll never touch 1.7 million people again than I agree. I think that's 100% factual. I also don't think ANY boxing OR MMA event in the next 10 years or so will touch that. Those PPV events drawing in the plus 1 mil range don't happen often.
They key is it's not BORING. The excess humping is what kills it tho.The show format is a success a 5 minutes 3 rounds.People like that I guess.Boxing matches go on for 12 rounds can drive people of it.Maybe boxing can adapt a 5 minutes a round fight. UFC has no run and gun type of fighters, like wet pea in boxing.. it's all action station. No where to hide in the octagon. But their dull moment is the humping geezuz mounting like gay lovers. however that's a few thing UFC is appealing longer minutes less rounds but action packed. And some are not lol.
I think the UFC does a better job with acknowledging it's faults. For instance the UFC announcers usually bury bad decisions and seem to acknowledge what the fans think and feel...where as boxing committees (ya know which ones I'm talking about) seem to operate in this ****ed up sort of bubble.
UFC is not killing boxing, boxing is killing boxing, there is far too many **** undercards that send you to sleep before the main event comes on but when you watch a UFC event the undercard for the most part do not send you to sleep and you do get more for your money, I am one of the biggest boxing fans you will find but the truth is UFC is taking over and let me tell you why, if you go into schools, the kids are talking about UFC not boxing, boxing is only spoken about when there is a big fight but the kids can talk about The ultimate fighter episodes on TV or even an undercard fight from a UFC card so its not just about the main event with UFC and this is where boxing ****s itself up the ass because the undercards put together for boxing cards are **** 90 % of the time and when can you really look back as a boxing fan yourself and call out a great undercard with a great main event, there isn't many because the undercards are normally garbage. Im tired of watching Matt Korobov knock out some ****ing pizza delivery driver in the ring. I want to see competitive fights without all the running, I want to see a fight break out and this is the next thing. Boxing fans go to a boxing match to watch a boxing match but they want to see a fight break out, not a boring fight for 12 rounds so when you weigh it all up UFC is kicking boxing's ass right now. It's captivating the younger generation and if you give the youths an ultimatum to choose between a boxing fight and a UFC event, they will choose the UFC event 95% of the time.
thats horse**** to say the klitsckos are more popular than tyson globally . Look even when tyson was washed up he was still able to go to england, scotland , denmark anywhere in europe and was the biggest draw in boxing knocking out bums . the kilitsckos are huge in germany and ukraine but thats it the rest of europe or japan , america hasent even heard of them . tyson was huge all over europe , japan pretty much any country that had television. Ali was also more popular than the klitsckos . he fought all over europe and even in africa. even larry holmes and lennox lewis who were very unpopular champs are more popular than the klitschkos.
Another thing is that UFC actually shows former PPVs on Spike TV a month of so after the fight. HBO PPVs are virtually never replayed except for an end of year recap or on HBO On Demand.
HBO replays the Main Event of whatever PPV they had the week before on the next episode of BAD (normally the next week). The UFC shows entire events which may be what UF is talking about.
When there are no more boxing forums like ESB. When it's no longer being covered by sports networks like ESPN and the likes. When fans won't spend a buck buying PPV's. . . . THEN we can start thinking about the sport being dead.
When Stoney left Ruiz's corner. But seriously, it's when we got all these "sanctioning body" bullcrap. Nowadays the general public doesn't even know who the actual world champion of a division is. Chalk it up to the WBA Super Championship, the WBC champion emeritus, etc.
I agree. That's one of the advantages a single company has over a collection of sanctioning committees.
