James Toney: None of the Russian chumps who are posing as champions want to fight me

I can only agree with that. Objectively seen, Toney is not in a position to talk, and to be honest he hasn't been in a long time.

But you know what? James does what he does, and that's what he always did and what he always gonna do - and we love it and we'll listen to it no matter what, even if we chuckle at it. Sometimes it's hilarious, but more often than not he tells it just how it is. The man knows this game better than everyone, he's seen it all, the heights and the dephts, so he knows what he's talking about. At least he's funny and not as boring as most of the other HWs out there, who have no charism whatsoever. Toney is a real old-schoold fighter, one glimpse at his resume confirms that; he's a legend of this sport and an ATG, so IMHO he can open his mouth as much as he wants, unlike guys like David Haye who do nothing but talk and duck fighters.

As for his fight on september 12th, I'll just wait and see. I have no hopes whatsoever, so I can't get disappointed. If he's indeed in shape and scores a convincing win, it doesn't even tell much, it doesn't mean anything more than that he can continue and take another fight. He should take one fight at a time, and then take it from there. He shouldn't even think about title-shots or the Klits right now.

 

They also don't want to fight Butterbean.

 

Toney got outboxed by Sam Peter his chance at the Klits evaporated right there.

Toney has great skills but his career has been a mess punctuated by occasional gems for a looooong ****ing time

 

i think that the combination of his age , recent performance , fight-wear , and him being so fat and out of his mind wanting to fight such bigger men , should prohibit him from any elite oposition above 200.
and i also think it would have been for his own benefit if he'd never reached to 200.

 

I hear what you're saying and no-one could ever take away what JT once was but look at his career over the last 6 or 7 years and its none too impressive , the Jirov win was an obvius high point, beating Guinn was good ( although Guinn has turned out to be the American Audley Harrison ) and stomping an autterly shot to **** Holyfield. He has never been a serious threat at HW , sure I can see him making the klits miss but beyond that ?

( and thats not even mentioning the roids ! )

Can you imagine what he could have done if he had shown enough control to stop himself at Light heavy or even cruiser. As much as I repsect Toneys abililty I still have to consider him a man who wasted his talents.

 

Agreed, Toney has to regain some credibility by delivering a few good performances before starting to complain about the champions. Toney's last performance against Oquendo was pretty much a disaster, so it's up to Toney to prove that age and inactivness haven't gotten the better of him.

As for the Greek fight, it's good news that it will finally be telivised. The fight in itself will give the public an update about his fitness level and could silence some of his critics once and for all. Providing that "lights out" puts on a good show against Greek, one can only hope that he will be able to land a meaningful fight in the near furure...

There is only one Russian chump posing as Champion: Nicolai Valuev. The Klitschko brothers are neither chumps nor Russian. Ukraine just celebrated Independence Day on August 24.

 

Particularly the bit about making the Klits miss - how?? I couldn't make Sam Peter Miss. If he ever fought a Klit he would definately be seeing the canvas!! And probs waking up and asking "what happend" if not then certainly a TKO loss.

 

I don't know anyone who takes Toney's loud-mouthing seriously but he's fun anyway.
