If Hagler wins (I think he can), it's on points.

Seriously now, i pick Hagler, it's a fight, they say boxing against Greb is not the right way to go about things, then again he beat Mickey Walker, **** i don't know what to say.

Like i said he beats Walker, 'it's Hagler, full of blood'

Harry Greb is too primative to be in a head to head matchup with Hagler, there I said it.

I think that Harry has some big problems in this fight.

A quick scan of Harry Grebs Middleweight record actually surprises me. He lost a few when he first started, which is obviously forgiveable, although it seems to be a bit of a thread that he faded late in fights. His first fight of note was against Tommy Gibbons, at middleweight, and it seems that Tommy was to crafty and while Greb performed admirably, he did not seem to have the power at the weight, at this stage of his career. I am not sure of the weights in his two losing efforts to George Chip, but it seems to be that Greb was a middleweight at this time. And it is also interesting to note that Greb seemed to tire in the later rounds against Chip. After this Greb started stringing together an impressive win loss series, but a year or two later he lost to middleweight Mike Gibbons. Grebs next loss was to the very small soldier Bartfield in what sounds like a close fight. Interestingly, Soldier was much smaller than Greb and Greb apparently struggled because he did not enjoy his usual speed advantage. This has us around 1918 and while Greb was performing admirably at higher weights, against better excellent opponents, he dropped back down to middleweight to fight Mike O Dowd and was beaten in another close fight. Later in 1918, Greb again fought the Soldier and again the smaller quicker boxer finished strongly although Greb won the fight. By 1919 Greb won his fourth battle with the Soldier and had mastered him, but by this time Greb enjoyed a massive weight advantage and was not a middleweight. Strangely (though it is probably a boxrec error) Greb was below the middleweight limit for his fight with Billy Miske. And while Miske lost the fight, he did finish the stronger of the two in the last two rounds. This was the last time that Greb actually fought as a middleweight until 1925. At this stage of his career, he didnt have that good a record.

Though, in fairness to Greb, he did continue to fight very near the limit and probably could have boiled down to the weight at any stage of his career. In 1925, when Greb was after his 30s, he started to really build his middleweight legacy, so it is worth noting that the middleweight version of Greb is very experienced and quite old. Greb beat Mickey Walker, which is an excellent win, but then twice lost on points to Tiger Flowers.

So to summarise, as a middleweight (at ATG level), Greb only really did his best as an older fighter (not ideal for someone with his swarming style that usually has a short liffespan for a fighter), he seemed for much of his middleweight fights to possible suffer from draining down to the weight and tire in the later rounds. And this is 15 rounds and not 10, like many of his middleweight fights were. The closest that Greb fought to Marvin Hagler was probably Tiger Flowers. Greb lost both of these fights, though they were very close.

On Hagler, he was different in that he really was a pure middleweight king. And his record is very awesome indeed. He beat most of his opposition very, earlyand was simply too good. Saying that, the closest he fought to Greb was probably Roberto Duran who was naturally smaller and not as strong as Greb. And Greb, was a bigger hitter than what Hagler was used to, in that Tommy Hearns really rocked Hagler and it is doubtful that Hagler's power could get him out of trouble against Greb if a similar situation presents itself, because Grebs chin is first class and proven even at the higher weights.

Still, i think that Hagler is a little slicker and perhaps even better at the weight. He matches it with Harry all the way, and despite some hairy moments, his straighter punching and better techniques will wear Harry down, whose all action style and age will catch up with him at some stage during the later stages of the fight. Marvin eventually wears him down and stops by TKO in the 12th.

I think a tournament scenario with the Middleweights is possibly the least interesting division you could think of, regarding the fact that Carlos Monzon will always come out on top, 99% of people know that before the first round .. Hagler, Hopkins, Tiger, Ketchel, Cerdan, Greb and i'd say Robinson too are not going to beat Monzon .. Monzon was a perfect fighting machine.

Its also very difficult to categorize Greb, a true Legend of Boxing but very difficult to analyze without any footage.

I pick Hagler becasue I feel he is multi-faceted enough to deal with Greb's swarming tactics, and also tough enough to punch back when he needs to.

Both covered in blood, Hagler winning widely on points due to doing the cleaner work in all the close rounds. IMO!!!

Greb wins. Too much speed, too tough to bend to Hagler. Hagler's best bet would be to go to war from the opening bell and use his strengths to bring the fight back to him, but i don't think we'd see that. As has been said, Hagler tries to outbox Greb and gets swamped by a superior workrate.

    Greb UD.

Greb could be 1 of the most skilled ever or he could be a very basic speedy pressure fighter. If he's only as good as say Calzaghe, I'd pick Hagler to beat him, if he's better I pick him to win.

And thats what a fight of this nature boils, SKILL

Greb upsets Hagler. In a frenetic, wild performance, Greb's punch output rivals great windmill-type punchers like Fighting Harada...and possibly sets a punch-output record, as Geb fights through a badly cut eye to win by a razors edge in this fight. Hagler scores the harder and cleaner punches, but is smothered at times and low blows, and dirty fighting occurs from both men. The decision is disputed royally...and a rematch is demanded by Hagler and the Petronelli brothers.
