    Interesting.

Is this suggesting evolution of boxing.... or is it adaption to rule changes?

Based on the footage I've seen, he utilized the hands-by-the-waist, chin-hanging-in-the-air, punch-and-maul, awkward-stance, diaper-wearing style very well. No way a guy like Robinson hangs with him. The fact that Fitzsimmons is 10X more vulnerable is irrelevant.

Burley on the other hand would dominate Fitz. Why? Well, I mean, c'mon. Just cuz. I'm sure everyone agrees.

I think it reflects the fact that Dempsey was a better, more thorough writer than Fitzsimmons and explained his methods a lot more clearly and completely. I wouldn't include the Dempsey power generation material unless it seemed to make sense in the context of Fitz's style as well.

I'm really looking forward to it, GPater. :good

I managed to contact a guy who could probably help me out (and maybe has a camera, who knows?) but he can't really start until mid-September. Until then, I'll have to stick with what I'm already doing.

I disagree on the style aspect as i dont think the film does him justice but i agree on them match ups

    Yeh im an AM boxer

well im hoping to work up the style doing pads, bag work and then sparring with either novices or a real controlled pace with a mate who boxes. o kinda serious

    good stuff

Glad to see you got a laugh out of it. In all seriousness though, I was out of line. Fitzsimmons, and the early days of Queensbury rules in general, is far from my speciality. I'm just talking ****.

Evolution (as in the biological process) in no way implies improvment merely changes in response to prevailing conditions.

You are not better than Sillurian sea scorpion merely adapted to a different set of environmental conditions. If you went back to the Sillurian period you would not be able to breathe due to the ratio of gases in the atmosphere. Hence we would have to credit the sea scorpion as being better adapted to that environment.

Now I think the same is true of boxing to a large extent.

No problem. I could tell that you found the "Fitz destroys Robinson" thread a little bizarre, and it's always nice to let steam off now and then. Personally, I thought that Robinson was a bad style matchup for him compared to somebody like LaMotta or Zale. And really, it is kinda funny that Fitz's best win is against a guy in a thong.

That being said, I don't think modern boxing technique is a magic formula that makes modern fighters impervious to opponents who have fought dozens of fights against the best in the world. At the end of the day, both fighters have only two arms and two legs and have spent most of their lives training to use them to hit another guy and not get hit. If somebody who fights like Hamed can win a linear title in the modern era, then Fitz could as well.

In any event, keep up the good work, Sweet Pea. :good
