http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/blog/ca...-for-tat-Mayweather-fight-now-?urn=mma,184846 This back and forth between Golden Boy Promotions and the UFC is great. Boxing and MMA go head-to-head on September 19. It's UFC 103 in Dallas against the Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing card. Last week, Golden Boy announced it would be adding three more solid fights to its undercard. UFC followed that announcement by unveiling a free one-hour lead-in show on Spike TV featuring two fights on the previously unaired undercard. Golden Boy has fired its next shot announcing that the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight will be available in 170 movie theaters across the country. From Golden Boy: "We are extremely pleased to welcome Fathom [Events] into the Golden Boy family of sponsors as their interest in the Mayweather vs. Marquez mega-fight is another indication of the sheer magnitude of the fight itself," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Having the fight in high definition in movie theaters throughout the country is unprecedented and gives boxing fans another outlet to watch the compelling action of a big-time fight." Floyd Mayweather is jacked to fire another salvo Manny Pacquiao and the UFC's way: "I can't wait to get back into the ring to reclaim my rightful place as boxing's pound-for-pound king while fans in movie theaters across the country experience it all live in high definition on 40-foot-screens," said Mayweather. "If you can't be ringside, this is another great way to see my return to the ring." Golden Boy reports that the last boxing match to be widely shown across the U.S. was the "Sugar" Ray Leonard-Roberto Duran fight in 1980. In recent years, the NFL, college basketball and college football re-introduced the concept of airing big sporting events at movie theaters around the country. The 2009 BCS was actually shown in 3-D in some theatres. :happy:happy
Do you guys think it'll be a good turnout? Could be negative effect on the pay-per-view sales too... but I guyessn they'll get revenue from the theatres also.
Could be global, but then again if this does shitty theaters wont keep doing it, so really lets see how this works out, IMO it would probably be for the cost of a movie ticket perhaps they are doing this becuase they fear not being able to sell alot of 50 PPV hook ups, atleast this way they can bring in some money people would almost always rather spending 7 or 8 bux over 50 especially when its a mayeather fight.
This is a direct response to the UFC's success rate in the bar market.Simply put,the usual way of distributing closed circuit is throught he bar network.Unfortunately for this fight the bars have chosen the UFC over the boxing event. The movie theatre is a differant turnstile for boxing when they can't get into the bar market. Don't believe this "sell" hype job by GBP,the closed circuit market for boxing for this event is in serious trouble.:deal
This won't work. Floyd has a hateful personality no average American can relate to, let alone buy a movie ticket to watch his fight. Marquez is a not a crowd drawer in America. It has all the ingridients of a flop fight. If ever, only die hard boxing fans will watch this fight.
Yay now I can go to the theather and watch this **** with random ass people with no alcohol... I cant see myself going to this but Im sure its a bad ass experience.
Get real! Floyd needs a marquee fighter like Oscar or Hatton to draw a crowd to watch his fight. He needs a Tecate promo discount too.
atschAll fighters need a marquee name to draw a crowd donkey. Oscar v Strum didn't make as much as Oscar v Trinidad...even a mule knows the reason why. Hatton and Oscar made more fighting Floyd than anybody else in their careers:hey They also made more fighting Mayweather than they did Pacman:hi::deal JMM is making more fighting FMJ than BOTH fights with Manny:deal
There was like 15k for the Mayweather-Judah fight, how about you check on something before you open your fat mouth
