Alfonso does usually fade late in terms of movement. However, he never stops throwing regardless, has quicker hands, and is a good combination puncher himself. He'll find Karass with everything and Karass will hit him back, it's just a matter of who can take it better down the stretch and who can manage a semblance of defense/movement. The latter goes to Gomez, don't know about the former though I would suppose that Karass has the edge there having been in longer fights. Alfonso has been in some wars though himself, and Karass was unable to get rid of Buendia or Jones, both of whom Gomez stopped.

Regardless of outcome, it should be an excellent fight.

 

True, but JSK dropped Buendia early. Gomez stopped him late on a body shot. JSK has to be considered the puncher, and in possession of the sturdier set of whiskers (as evidenced by all the clean punches that have smoked through his crappy defense with little effect! ).
Gomez was down in what, every single round against Cotto? And one time from a jab even? JSK will easily be the best and strongest he's stepped up against since then - if his confidence isn't built back up to wherever it was pre-Cotto he'll start to crack as soon as he tastes power and it'll be with a barracuda that reacts when it smells blood. Likewise, however, Alfonso will represent Jesus' biggest challenge to date and could easily outbox him for well over half the match if not the whole thing. He's also probably the slightly bigger guy so he could even register a KD or two himself with some good timing (certainly don't see him winning by KO however).

Cotto knocked Gomez down three times. Once was a bad call knockdown(after Cotto landed about sixty punches in the round which influenced the hometown ref), once was a perfect counter body shot to the solar plexus, and once was a counter jab where Gomez was off-balance(and Cotto dropped iron-chinned Clottey with that same jab). And Gomez still had a broken hand going into the fight and had been sick in training camp prior to that fight, plus he had only been dropped once before that fight in his career, which was a flash KD.

I agree that Karass is the puncher regardless, I'm just also pretty sure both guys can take it pretty well, and Alfonso has done better against their shared competition.

 

JSK looks incredibly sluggish like he's fighting underwater. He makes Margarito look like he has decent handspeed and that's usually impossible to do.

 

He'll look that way for most of a round and then wham, a looping shot will snake right into a guy's temple in the time you can blink, or those long arms will curl in for a quick uppercut to the chin. With him it's all about his ideal comfortable range. He needs to work on getting there and throwing from there in the gym.

 

Looks like the Gomez date is on!

Along with Santos vs. Foreman and Soto vs. TBA, this card could turn out as solid as FMJ vs. JMM. :think
