    Gene Tunney, Tommy Loughran and Billy Conn all come to mind, and there shouldn't be any dispute on skin color, unlike the Italians with these Irishman I listed.

    The obvious answer to this would have to be Harry Greb.

    If you had to pick a white American fighter who had a claim to being the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time then Greb is going to be the first name to spring to mind.

    If we are talking about historical impact then I would have to say John L Sullivan.
