I've recently been annoyed by some of the asinine statements on ESB as well as some baseless threads aimed at one thing only- to shoot certain individual boxers down.

So, to prove everyone doesn't come on here to either nuthug or criticise, let's get back to the boxing- why do you like/love the sport?

    :think:good

Because there's nothing like the buzz of a big fight. It's an event and I love to see the entrances, to see how a fighter looks on his way to the ring. For me, Hopkins v Trinidad was one of the greatest boxing events of all time. It had everything, too great fighters, a man desperate for recognition, a historically significant event and the emotion because of 9/11. Only boxing can throw up those kind of events and it's why I love it.

I think its a mix of primal instinct, base fighting that weve been doing since the dawn of time and the science of modern boxing. These two things combine to make a sport that strips everything else away, its just two guys in the ring trying to beat each other. The only thing better than a good fight is sex.

Let me put it this way:

I'm a football fan as well as a boxing one, and to me a big fight is like a World Cup final. Its not just the match/fight itself; a lot of the time both fail to deliver in the action. But its the whole buzz surrounding it, with the build-up, the interviews, the pundits all discussing it and the "how they got there" thing (highlights of the fighters' previous bouts/how a particular team got through to the final).

Difference is the World Cup final only happens every four years, while I am treated to a big fight a good few times a year (therefore more chance of a fight delivering in the action department, something that justifies all the build-up).

NB: I don't get that same buzz off "big" club football ties, whereas I do get it off certain fights that appeal to me but might not necessarily be termed "big" fights (mostly lower division fights).

@D-MAC: Football has become an exercise in cynicism. Don't get me wrong, I watch an obscene amount of it, but the weekly platitudes and whinging have become tiresome in the extreme. Any sport that gives Jamie Redknapp a platform from which to offer an opinion must have serious problems.

Because ive been street-fighting my whole life, then i found boxing where everyone gets a fair chance (weights, gloves, rules blah blah blah) but i just fell in love with the techniques and the skill it takes to hit and not get hit. After i saw the Calzaghe-Lacy fight I was buzzing cos of all the weaving, ducking, uppercuts, hooks, jabs ( blood! ) and when im in that square ring jabbing some guys head off or hell even when im getting my ass kicked and having to find a way out im having the time of my life

    I hate that ****.

Listening to him is like getting stabbed over and over and over again........with a rusty knife.............in the testicles........while your family and friends are forced to watch.

What annoys me most is that he makes some obvious comment and sits back as if he's said something profound. A cipher if ever there was one and part of the 'Arry Mafia.

    because i love it.

Everything about it the subtleties how hard it is, the history, the big fights, the styles, the defence, the techniques, the great fighters, the innovaters, the journymen, the traditions

    everything about it

i'll tell you why i box though its easier to explain.

    1) because i love the sport realy enjoy doing it

    2) To be remembered as an ATG or even as a good fighter.

I loved that fight, Tito dancing like a clown on the way to the ring and the Ricans were going crazy then Hopkins went on to absolutely destroy him.:lol:

Like you say there isn't much like the buzz of a big fight, the only thing I can think of is a derby match, and I also admire every fighters courage to step between the ropes and potentially put their lives on the line for our entertainment.
