i agree with what CT said

CT got abit done to day mainly mastering the right swing- double left hook (it works so well in a modern ruleset)

Fitz whole style is based on a slow pace fight

 

Yes and no.

I could outline a couple of fights where he seems to have gone in for the kill early and fought more agressivley.

 

The way his style is IMO its not made for an aggresive high output kind of fighter its a patient counterpuncher or stalker.

He maybe fought more aggresivly as in putting pressure on and stalking but i dont see him having a hugely high workrate.

It was a true counter-punchers style. Movement is quick but you can only realy move 1 step quick and its more of a leap and drag. Although all the movements from his stance are fast and explosive so i could see him all of a sudden explode with a combination

 

thats how to get the best of the style you explode int all your movements

Dont forget that with the wrestling that was allowed in the clinches in those days, it really is near impossible to fight a fast paced fight during those times, as every fight was like a John Ruiz special. Those who try to use a modern fast paced fight are at a major disadvantage because their 6 punch combos will only get through 1 or 2 before they are being wrestled and hit in the clinch. It is not really possible to use a fast pace against Fitz, because he can clinch and slow you down.

It wouldnt work with modern refs, so he would have to rely on his power punches slowing the opponent down to his pace. I think he has the KO Power to do this, though i wonder whether the average fighter would be capable of doing it, using the same style. I tend to think it would depend a lot on the opponent skills and the ref but for most people, the modern style would be quite a bit more successful.

 

The more i research the more im amazed by how relevant thsi stuff is

 

also i thimnk Fitz style was a mile away from Julio Cesaer Chavez's

 

especially at MW

patient stalker, good counter puncher. Mixed up combos well between head and body, good combo puncher, accurate

i think JCC would put on alot more pressure and slightly more combos but im convinced Fitz used combos effectivly and regualry.
