Happiest: TYSON losing to Buster! Just wanted to see someone beat him, funny thing is, i was cheering for him everytime after that. Saddest: Penalosa losing to Juanma...
Tyson losin to Buster was terrible when I was a lil kid. Prime Mike got me into boxing when I was young. To see a nobody beat him was a heartbreaker. I remember watchin it wit my pops, and him bein in shock. RJ gettin KO'd by Tarver was a downer too. He looked like **** in the 1st fight and still won, so I figured Tarver was gettin sonned by a healthy, pissed off Roy in the rematch. I was damn near in mourning when he got dropped. Watchin Bhop beat Tarver was a gr8 nite. I hated Tarver for what he did to Roy, and felt Bhop got shaded in the Taylor fights. Loved that schoolin Bhop put on his ass. Mike beatin Bruno in 96 was the **** too. Everybody knew he was gonna win, but it felt gr8 seein him get his title back.
1. pav/taylor I....and its both the happiest and saddest at the same time. i was pulling for pav to the point of losing my voice and wearing a tread in the capret so when taylor slumped into the corner like a heap of dirty laundry i went nuts and then almost instantly felt so bad for taylor b/c i did and still do love jermain. i almost immediately sat back down while they looked him over and i was almost gutted about it watching him like that. i'll be pulling for him in the tourney thats for sure. 2. rjj/calzaghe...i had been a fan of boxing since i was real little and watched a lot of early tyson, etc, but it was rjj/toney that really turned me into a huge boxing fan. rjj was superman to me growing up and to see him get worked over like joe did to him :verysad. i can't say i didnt see it coming b/c i knew joe was gonna do a number to him but i can't say it didnt soften the blow of watching it. (so by default watching rjj outclass toney was a real treat for me and one of the happier moments for me in boxing) 3. cotto/margo....and no, not b/c of some loaded gloves theory either. i like cotto and he had put on a clinic in the first half of that fight and then to see him get busted up the way he was and to see his family in the audience was real sad. 4. ssm/margo...i could put a lot of ssm fights up here as happy moments b/c i grew up rooting for the guy but this was especially sweet b/c he had been written off as being over the hill and on top of that he was having problems outside the ring as well so to see him just tear margo an new one was real sweet. i enjoyed every second of that fight. i could go on but im sure other posters will cover a lot as well... good thread kirk :good
Happiest: McGuigan beating Pedrosa to become world champ (watching McGuigan in the Kings Hall as a kid was my first taste of boxing and to see him win the title was brilliant) Steve Collins victories over Nigel Benn and Eubank (brilliant nights against true warriors) Bernard Dunne's victory over Cordoba (should have been there, but what night and the atmosphere was incredible) Mosley's stoppage of Margarito (love watching Mosley finish off a fighter, he is brutal and especially sweet against Margarito) Bruno beating McCall to become champ (brilliant night, fantastic atmosphere and loved Brunos entrance that night) Saddest: Cruz beating McGuigan in that stifling heat WTF were they thinking about having that fight in such heat McDonnell beating McGuigan (sad end to his career) Buster Douglas KO Tyson Mayweather KO of Hatton Pacquiao KO of Hatton
Saddest: Tyson losing to Lewis the way he did, was quite sad to watch for me. Happiest: Pacquiao KO Hatton
Same here. I remember all my mates where big Lewis fans, deep down i knew Tyson wasnt going to win but i refused to admit it. When the fight was over one of my mates who suffers from severe little man syndrome wouldnt shut up so i had to pop the little *******.
Saddest - Hatton getting KO'd by Mayweather, i was convinced hed win and i remember being sat with family and freinds and just in toatal shock that hed just been knocked out, i was half expecting him to lose to Pac so that wasnt as much a shock Happiest - Calzaghe vs lacy, i was just in aww of him being so dominant of such a hyped fighter
1) Julio Cesar Chavez loss to Randall Bailey 2)Mike Tyson loss to Buster Douglas 3) Felix Trinidad loss to Bernard Hopkins Happiest moment was Felix Trinidad controversial win over Oscar De la Hoya
Saddest moments; Tito losing to Hopkins. Tito's my favourite fighter ever and after his massacre of Joppy I was convinced he was going to beat B-Hop and then fight RJJ. It seemed quite plausible at the time! Tarver beating RJJ by ko. Roy is also one of my favourites and at the time I couldn't envisage him losing a fight. Him losing the way he did, to Tarver of all people was hard to take. My happiest moments were Tito beating Vargas, Morales beating Pac, RJJ beating Ruiz and JMM beating MAB.
Saddest: probably an unpopular choice but finding out Marg was a cheat and then seeing him get totally dismantled the way he did by the superb Shane Mosley. I loved marg and he seemed like such a decent guy but to see him fall from grace in such a fashion was horrible. Happiest: has to be watching Carl Froch win the world title against jean pascal.
Happiest 1. Mosley over Margarito, although I admit that would probably be one of my saddest if it wasn't for the handwraps scandal. 2. Haye over Maccarinelli, some of the casual fans I went to college with all picked Maccarinelli as he was a fairly big name due to appearing on Calzaghe undercards whilst Haye suddenly just came up on the radar and I won quite a bit of money from them. :yep 3. Hopkins over Pavlik, said before the fight that Hopkins would school him if he had anything left and Pavlik-mania was insane on here before that and I also won £500 as Hopkins was a 4-1 underdog here in the UK. Saddest 1. Hatton over Mayweather, the hype for this fight was absolutely massive over here and was the talk of the country. Whilst I knew deep down Mayweather would win with ease the hype slowly made me believe Hatton had a small chance, never expected to see him stopped though. 2. Pacquiao over De La Hoya, as much as I disliked Oscar and liked Pac it is always sad to see when a once great fighter clearly doesn't have it any more. 3. Ricky Burns beating Michael Gomez, got nothing against Burns but Gomez is my favourite journeyman fighter of all time and it was clear from the 2nd round onwards that he just did not have it any more. Also he sounded totally dejected after the fight and apparently has not taken it at all well.
Sounds like the Hopkins bet got u a nice bit of dosh! as for Gomez, me and my mate we saw him in a bar in Manchester shortly before the Khan Kotelnik fight, he didn't look too bad.
Hatton mayweather hurt me, i just really wanted hatton pull off the huge upset, the fight was so well promoted. it was a huge event, the unfair treatment and frustration that hatton was suffering started to annoy me then out of no where it was over. happiest moment was probably froch taylor lol. im not a fan of joe calzaghe i think his ducking and diving is whats wrong with boxing and froch had been bad mouthing him after winning that awsome fight with pascal. then he foght taylor and was getting completly outboxed and beat to the punch every time before getting the much needed ko. also hatton tyzue, what a win
froch vs taylor for me cause I was talking serious **** about FrOCH not being in the same league as Taylor to another esb poster. I'm not a huge taylor fan or anything but for some reason I felt deflated in the two ko loses cause he was in control and then got either tired or careless and got KO'ed violently
