Pac's camp is still in trouble, his advisers want him to train in the Philippines so he can fulfill his other obligations like shooting a movie and a dozen endorsement deals. roach wants to take him to Mexico to train in seclusion away from hanger-ons and opuurtunistic leeches. Pac hasn't confirmed yet a date and location for his training.
He was actually hydrated, he was weighing 146lbs 2 weeks before the weigh in, His body already adjusted and when fight night came, he didnt baloon back to his old form. They miscalculated everything. From how light they wanna come in, and the gameplans that didnt work.
Arum denied this allegation and the Nevada State Athletics Commission denied there was any request for a larger ring size for november 14. And what's important is by fight night they will be fighting on a 20x20 ring. end of story
The Nevada never denied it, all they said was that "they could apply for an exception but they probably would not get it" Regulation for Nevada is 20...they never said that pac man didn't ask for it...they may have...end of story.
From Michael Marley: Arum: Don't panic, Pacquiao will go camping in Mexican mountains http://www.examiner.com/x-5699-NY-Boxing-Examiner~y2009m8d31-Arum-Dont-panic-Pacquiao-will-go-camping-in-Mexican-mountains
The Nevada said no one asked them for an extra large ring and if they would they'd most likely not get it. in the end, this fight is still on a 20x20 so quit making issues about ring size. period
Good. I hope Cotto turns up the pressure and puts some leverage on his punches. In my opinion he'll need to do so against Manny.
Miguel Cotto started doing light work to be in better shape when the real training camp started. It's September 1. He is going to do 8-10 wk training camp. Why all the overtraining talk?
Don't go crazy by the fact he sparred. They only said he did some sparring with that guy Frankie Santos(18-6-3). I think the fact he started training early is a very good thing. I have been saying for the last three fights Cotto's camps have been too short. I am used to see 12 weeks camps for Championship fights. Cotto was doing 8-9weeks and let be honest, his stamina hasn't been the best. Paquiao is not the biggest puncher out there, but he is a ****ing ball of energy. Cotto needs to be ready for that. I am sure he didn't do more than 4-5 rounds of sparring. Just to start getting the rhythm. Nothing too hard. And his trainer only said they are training there because they have a 20x20 and a 24x24 ring and they want to get used to big rings because that what they are going to used in the fight. Bottom line is, Cotto needs to get ready for a moving target. One that could easily move for 15 rounds.
Technique and rythm training are the key foundations to develop before entering an intense camp. Cotto's people are taking the right approach by starting early and allowing the body to rest, recover, replenish and develop lean muscle. Dealing with the promotional duties that are sure to pop up the closer it gets to fight night will interrupt an intense camp thus diverting focus. When have you seen cotto train like he's in a rocky movie? Overtrain??? This is only possible in a compressed camp not allowing your body to recover and build. They know what their doing.
