Fitzsimmons was best at middleweight but he still did far more at heavyweight than most of the guys you've listed.

To state the obvious: H2H, a 12 stone Fitzsimmons is going to get annihilated by an 18 stone Lewis or Bruno.

Also, I think a lot of the Greatness attributed to Fitzsimmons is about his historic switch in weights, rather than his ability as a astronomical heavyweight.

Still, there was only one HW world title back in those days and this man won it.

Great stuff so far guys, I'm enjoying reading this. What GPater is doing is good too, sometimes things aren't as clean cut as you think and he is stirring a bit of debate, the main purpose of this thread along with the lists. A lot of the lists are good as well, if not all, for being such a small nation they are actually quite strong lists. I'm away back to work but i'll get mines up tomorrow.

Appreciation of the early era explains Sharkey and Fitzsimmons but why on earth have you got Farr so high?

Its easy to clutch at names and go gypsy bob boner would beat Jack Fishface Fredricks from the 1800's please qualify what your claiming or its just a bunch of names in random order and defeats the objective of placing them properly.

Top 5 British heavyweights since the War...I won't do a top ten because there is every possibility that Richard Dunn would sneak onto the list, and that would just never do :-(

    1. Lennox
    2. Bruno
    3. Bugner
    4. Cooper
    5. Williams, Mason

Going the distance with Frazier and Ali twice is way better than anything that Sir Henry ever achieved.

What's wrong with Richard Dunn - apart from being from Bradford, of course ;)
