    McClellan would absolutely annihilate him.

Taylor downed him , so GMan would have also.
this time he won't be left to recover.

People's reasons for picking McClellan seem largely to boil down to: "Taylor had Pavlik in trouble!!111 Imagine what McClellan would have done with that!!111111"

Whilst I agree that McClellan would have beaten Pavlik, that reasoning is perverse. In fact, it's about as convincing as calling this fight for KP on the basis that Pavlik would have mullered McClellan on the night Milton got to him. To judge a fighter based on one clumsy mistake that got them in trouble is, frankly, ridiculous.

What about the Pavlik that fought Gary Lockett against the Hopkins that fought Mercado in Ecuador at stupid-thousand ft.? Pavlik beats him? Oh, so I guess Pavlik is better than Hopkins, then.

    :patsch

Pavlik loses his head when the Gman walks through his best Sunday punch smiling. Chances are we do not see nor hear from KP for a long ol time once he has been KTFO

    1. Pavlik would last longer against McClellan than Kessler would...

    2. Joe Average is well BELOW average as a Boxing fan...like garbage level.

Taylor and Pavlik are both far better than Gerald. Gerald is the Allen Green of the day. He stopped before he was entirely exposed (although Dennis, Ralph and ofcourse the Benn stoppage should have beenn enough).

Taylor beat Hopkins and is far more accomplished and many times a better boxer. Gerald may hit harder, but that is absolutely all he has over Taylor. Taylor wins this UD and Pavlik wins KO or UD.

    Gerald is ridiculously overrated.

there is a great chance that pavlik is better than hopkins.
a 'green' hopkins lost to rj at the beginning of his career.
but still , too many consider hopkins as the better of the two.
so , why not forgive pavlik - after all he still wasn't stopped despite fighting 10 lbs above his best weight. someday he might be considerred great too. i believe he also could stop undersized trinidad and delahoya even at their peak. also remember the taylor fights of both and their outcomes. pavlik just fought a bigger and much more experienced man that night. i don't say pavlik is the talent of the year or something , just don't exaggerate with it.
tarver had a loss to harding quite early in his career. imagine if people would have bashed him like they do with pavlik today.
hopkins made a career of fighting smaller men :
trinidad , wright , delahoya , pavlik , simon brown , gilbert baptist (154 fighter who also did 160, still a tough fight for hopkins)
also tried calzaghe but that didn't work as he expected.
also added a drained tarver to his legacy.

I don't think McClellan was "exposed" by Benn; I think we all know he had serious problems that night with the way he was taking punches - he didn't take that much more damage than many other opponents of Benn's, but seemed to be reacting to it a lot worse. It wasn't just that he wasn't tough, either; after all, he'd taken big punches from serious punchers before.

Anyway, I just think Pavlik would have a lot of trouble with someone who can box and move effectively and has enough power to stop Pavlik just walking through him. Pavlik still has a lot of experience to gain and fighting to do, though; we'll see how he improves.

I think Pavlik's loss to Hopkins, all things considered - the additional weight, Pavlik's pre-fight condition, Pavlik's poor training camp, coming in with the wrong gameplan, Hopkins being a stylstic nightmare for KP etc. - shouldn't be considered too significant. In fact, I'd say it's less significant than B-Hop's loss to RJJ.

There's certainly the scope for Pavlik to become as great a fighter as Hopkins, but at the moment that's just a possibility. I can see him doing a job on Williams, and unifying the titles if he puts his mind to it. After that, there are some huge fights up there at SMW - imagine if he beat, say, the winner of Bute/Andrade II and the winner of the SMW tournament - say Kessler - and maybe even took on a top LHW one day? It's unlikely, but that would be some achievement: a legit three-weight world champ with at least 3 or 4 huge "W"s on his record. So the dream is still alive for KP.

Pavliks entire game is centered around either staying just out of reach landing longer hands than his opponent expects, or outgunning inferior opposition. Question is, would McClellan be smart enough to avoid the first thing. Actually, I don't think so. When Pavlik doesn't get stupid and tries for trading, he should win comfortably, almost easily. McClellan wings away with almost zero setup, I can't see Pavlik falling to that. Pavlik also doesn't bob & weave when hurt, he holds, which does not allow McClellan to hammer away, also to the back of the head. All this "the harder puncher" doesn't count when you can't land. McClellan isn't Roy Jones, not even close.
