Good chance of a Hearns/Duran repeat. But I reckon the Duran from the Moore and Cueves fights weathers an early beating to pull out a late stoppage. I see that latter scenario probably happening 7 times out of 10.
I think Duran would use his exceptional ring smarts to nullify Jacksons power, similar to how he did to Palomino, and stop Jacko late. Interesting matchup :good
I don't see how Duran wins this one. He is smaller, carrying more weight, and not nearly as mobile here. Duran might showcase some defensive prowess early on, but he won't be overpowering somebody like Julian Jackson, not at 154. Jackson meanwhile just has to land that perfect punch sooner or later, and goodnight Duran.
Im assuming many of you forgot about durans amazing chin, and just remembering the hearns fight.Ok jackson might have hit as hard as hearns(or maybe harder)but styles were so different hearns had better range speed and overall talent,Jackson would not be able to tee off on duran like hearns did,and also duran was so out of it for that fight that wasnt the duran that fought hagler, and moore or the 147 version.Duran even at 154 was brilliant at rolling with shots and underated defensivley and as a boxer.Nobody else ever seriously hurt duran not hagler, barkley, palomino, cuevas or anyways i can go on and on duran had a rock chin even at jm and middle, and he was a much better boxer than julian .Ok so the first 6 or 7 are pretty close, but durans class takes over after that and he breaks down jackson and stops him in 10 o 11,jackson never had the best of chins and duran althought not a one punch guy at the higher wt still hit hard enoug to get the job done. Please i dont wanna hear no genius bring up when joppy hurt him, cause duran was pushing 50!
At these higher weights, Duran's stamina wasn't the best. I can see him lasting a good part of the fight through good defense, but gasses out late, as a result of having 20+ extra lbs. Limited stamina at a higher weight certainly isn't helped when somebody like Julian Jackson is hitting you. My conviction is Duran gasses out late, and subsequently TKO'd or UD'd. If he dares to mix it up with Jackson, he'll get stopped early.
Well Im not sure Julian has the most proven stamina anyway. He mostly got guys out of there quick..which he could against Roberto but against the very best version of Duran Im not counting on it. He looked a bit winded in the last few rounds of the Tate fight but was fortunate that the damage he had done to Tate earlier allowed him to still control the ring..He was rocked a couple of times down the stretch in that fight. From memory he came out strong in the last round but quickly puffed, hands went low, he was a bit sloppy..holding and on the defensive more. Duran showed pretty solid stamina in the Barkley and Moore fights...have bigger men lean on him, wrestle him and bang at his body.
i agree with whatta rock i was at that fight against thomas tate and he gave him all he could handle in the late rounds, and against moore, barkley and hagler yey he gave the last 3 to hagler but was ahead after 12 and i just dont see julian knocking out duran late and duran was to slick to get bombed early by julian.Yey that was a great fight against tate but he got real tired at the end, that was at the las vegas hilton chavez vs frankie mithcell undercard and camacho knocked out vankirk they were hyping the chavez camacho fight but jackson vs tate was the fight of the night.
I havent watched it in a while..but they landed their fair share of bombs. I remember Jackson looking a little troubled later on in that fight...but he landed some wicked shots on Thomas throughout the night and deserved the win. One thing that struck me about that fight was how textbook Jackson could be when he puts his mind to it..When the fight slowed down and it was a little more of a boxing match..He showed great skills in spurts..People tend to forget he was capable of this.
I also think that the clever Duran did well against the big bombers, with the exception of Hearns...I think he would get to my man Jackson in the mid rounds and stop him in the 9th..a tko.
Great idea for a match up. It has to be remembered that Hearns hit Duran again and again before the KO. Jackson does not have the same kind of accuracy and consistency. I think Barkley and Moore were big physical men, stronger than Jackson but not as powerful. It’s a close one but I’d back Roberto. He would be hard to hit cleanly and would not get clipped cleanly like Graham and Norris were. If he did go down Duran had the recuperative powers to come again. I’d imagine a late stoppage for Roberto with Jackson looking a mess at the end.
It's testament to how ****ing good the likes of Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather jr, Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon are that they keep getting matched on here with larger men.
Don't think they'd do as well though to be honest. Duran had some good performances at the higher weights. Can't imagine Hagler beating, say, Marvin Johnson. Just my opinion though:good
No what i mean is, people match them (on here) unfairly with fighters above their own best and proven weight divisions, because they are so good they more or less always win.
