I was visiting the scene of the boxers.....and what i saw... Scene.com has heard from multiple sources that HBO is very interested in a rematch between Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi. The network was very surprised with the better than expected television rating for the fight. I've heard HBO is pushing for a rematch. The fight took place on August 22 in Houston, Texas. Diaz edged Malignaggi with a controversial unanimous twelve round decision. The scoring of 118-110 by hometown judge Gale Van Hoy has caused quite a ruckus in the media, and among fans. Based on the results of a few online polls, the majority of the viewing audience saw Malignaggi as the winner. Malignaggi has probably received more press for the loss, than he would have received for beating Diaz. It's pretty simple, people are fed up with shady politics of the sport. Diaz would like to fight Ricky Hatton but I don't see that happening in 2009. Scene was in touch with two sources who spoke with Ricky's father Ray Hatton. Ray advised both sources that his son would probably not fight again until next year - if at all. This content is protected This content is protected
I don't even know diaz would go to atlantic city....that is still paulie's neighborhood so to speak..... you imagine if its at 140, bigger ring, and atlantic city......diaz would do it if the money is right though...
i picked paulie to win in the first fight and thought he edged it out but I would pick diaz in the rematch
I don't see the rematch happening unless HBO throws a huge amount of money to diaz...... no way is diaz team going to fight paulie at 140, with possibly a 20-24 foot ring.......
Diaz will run like hell unless the deck is stacked against Paulie like it was last time. 0% chance of Diaz going to NY.
the first fight wasnt that bad. it was an interesting match up of styles. i would watch the rematch but I wouldnt pay for it
Good post, Jeff. I'd love to see the rematch in NY. That said, there are plenty of other candidates for where it can take place if the rematch goes ahead. How about the Staples Centre?:think:good
Not a bad idea,....I still don't think diaz would even go to atlantic city....remember the paulie-ngoudjo fight took place in atlantic city....I'm sure Golden Boy and Diaz will say No.....Paulie will make diaz come up to 140, and will most likely get atleast a 20-24 foot ring.....I don't see it happening unless diaz gets a huge advantage in the split of the purse...
All Diaz has to do is cut the ring off better and swing that overhand right over Mali's low left...then it would be clear for Diaz. In reality ther'es too many politics to make a rematch happen, and Diaz should stick to 135 anyway
Diaz won the first fight, he will do better in the rematch I dont think Paulie should get a rematch, not after Crying like a little girl, this is boxing, you win some you lose some, but you should act like a man in either out come..
I feel Diaz is a bit too small for anything over 135. Diaz needs to focus on 135 or even moving down to 130.
