I guess I just missed the similarities between Marciano and Trevor Berbick, which is used as a measuring device. Come to think of it, Berbick was dusted faster by Mercado, so what conclusions can we jump to about that?

Then again, just how many Tyson fans saw any of those defeats of his coming? Not very many if you gamble and follow boxing odds.

Well said, and I agree with this line of thinking.

It's not a knock on Marciano at all. It's simply a size thing, in my eyes. Look at what Tyson did to Spinks, who fought Tyson at 212. Spinks had GREAT power at lightheavy, but Tyson was able to literally walk right through it. I see the same thing happening against Rocky. Tyson was a physical freak, with an incredible chin, and moreso than other heavies his style and killer instinct is disaster for men smaller than him.

    Jaws: Size and style

Zadfrak: Opposed to the Don Cockell who lost to middleweights like Turpin and light heavy's like Slade ... get real please.

If you want to cherry pick how about Joe Walcott losing to Simon, Allen, Maxim and Rey ?

Berbick KO'ed John Tate, went a tough 15 with a prime Holmes, defeated a prime, then undefeated Page and Pinklon Thomas. Pretty much bigger and better competition than Marciano ever did.

Tyson would have hell on his hands with the 37 yr old fit and cut Walcott that fought Marciano for the title.....JJW was ripped and did not have an ounce of blubber and steriod free...The man could box and punch and move...faster than Quick Tillis...better than Mitch Green...and hit harder than Douglas and craftier than Holyfield......That version of Walcott was a beast....I met a lot of Champions, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Bowe, and Frazier and Walcott were the scariest built....I met Walcott in the 70's and his neck, shoulders, hands and head were thick and he was still fit...this man had skill that did not exsist in the 80's and early 90's

As long as you don't count his legs. His thighs were about the size of Tyson's calfs.

Straight out Bummy, how does Tyson who fought Holmes do against the Walcott who fought Marciano. I say Tyson KO's him within 5. Say you ?

I love how often that after Tyson's whole career, it ultimately culminates in "Tillis, Green, Smith, Tucker, Douglas, and Holyfield".
    :verysad:roll::lol:

Even MORE incredible is that FOUR of those men he absolutely crushed, winning nearly every single round. But listening to some of you people, it's as if he LOST to them!:blood:patsch

    Exactly,

What about Walcott losing a career 18 fights with six of them coming by way of knockout? How about the Abe Simon loss? Losing arguably 3 out of 4 to Charles? Losing to a washed up Louis? , etc.. etc..

If legs were so important Tony Galento would have been the best....Walcotts legs were solid, quick and crafty....I think that version 37yr old, fight 1, was a tough fight for Tyson at any point of his career...remember Joe punched a lot harder than Holmes and had pinpoint power

Well in Douglas, Holyfield,Williams and McBride are fights that the opponent were not in fear or fazed by him and when the going got tough Mike Fizzled....I love Tyson as a fighter but this is his biggest flaw and its the way I see it.

Please let's not go there with the 'hardcore fan' thing...I love both fighters, as do many others. Many are trying to be impartial, which is the way it should be.

He hurt his knee in the Williams fight - that was rather obvious (as was the surgery in the following days after the fight :deal ). Williams obviously didnt hurt him with the punches but if you arent an athlete you cannot understand a torn knee ligament.
And he was winning the McBride fight until he quit on his stool out of exhaustion.
So these facts and the fact he was completley shot as a fighter means the Williams and McBride fights should not be allowed to bring up in disscusions. :deal:good:hey:happy

He wasn't truly slamming Walcott. He was responding with the same kind of logic to show you could tear down any fighter with that line of reasoning.

    :happy Well said.

Berbick came out and fought his heart out. :rofl:rofl:rofl Man people are funny. Berbick was absolutely terrified, fought a terribly stupid fight and was a pushing and clinch-nerving wreck.
