Building muscle without losing speed???

    Is it possible to build muscle for endurance and not lose speed? I have been running to improve my wind but i feel like my muscles could use some endurance training.

    Less weights more reps, pull ups, push ups. Vertical push ups

    Lose? You might even gain depending on your current condition and style of training?

    You won´t lose speed by lifting weight´s. it´s an old myth, not true.
    Okay if you lift weight´s 5 days a week and box 1 day you might lose speed, but then again if you train that way you don´t train for boxing, right.
    Don´t worry, you won´t lose speed.

    if you want muscle endurance when doing weights aim for the over 12 rep range, you wont lose speed as long as you keep foocusing on hand speed in training, if you want to increase speed aim for the below 5 rep range this will focus on strenght and power, a stronger muscle contracts quicker than a weaker one :deal, however if you start putting on size and bulk you will slow down and it will take from your agility, flexibilty and fluidity

    Key word here: Muscle Memory. Muscles respond to "how" their trained.

    I've had my lads doing shadow boxing with weights concentrating on full ROM then switching to speed and concentrating on speed of delivery!! This good?

    Good drill Jeff. I have our fighters shadow box with pool balls (9-ball size for adults) in their hands.

    More resistance simply means they have to work harder. As long as the movement is EXACTLY the same with CORRECT form they will postively see increases in peformance.

    I've done both weight lifting and boxing training on and off since I was a kid and I never noticed any decline in speed. As far as I'm concerned it pure bull****.

    Although I'd like to add that I've also never bulked up much through weight training because I don't gain muscle very easily and all the cardio work I do with boxing. I suppose if you add dozens of pounds of muscle then maybe you might lose some speed... but with the cardio work you get from boxing I doubt you'll have that problem.

    Its a myth that you loose speed. Posters repeat this crap by rote because they dont know anything about workout regimes. Of course basic physics has to be taken into account at some stage. But modicum of extra muscle gain will not hinder your speed or any performance by any means.

    All I can say is the gym where I work is full of body builders. If they less muscular the significantly faster myth would mean that I have about 6 clients who are faster then Manny Pac despite been 16 plus stone. Its a load of tosh. The only problem we have with the big guys is their CV. But that can easily be improved.

    Bodybuilders dont build functional muscle do they.
