So where does RJJ fit in the big picture, through his prime he was untouchable surely he must be top 50??
Top 20 would have been top 10 if he retired after Tarver 1....He should have done a Calzaghe be smart and not give a rematch but unfortunately hes not a conman like that...has too much integrity. But then again...do we detract from other fighters for losing in their later years (Leanord, Hagler, Ali, Robinson????)...the answer is no.. Jones is from the modern era so we judge him harder than the anyone before...which is unfair. Put it this way hes the best ive ever seen in my lifetime
When you talk about boxing skills, he comes in the top 5. Now considering what he could have done with these, he comes to the top 10-top 15. I mean he could have accomplished so much more he had fought all the top guys of his time.
To have a guy completely collapse like that after his first real loss - only to never recover... Has the phrase "all flash and no substance" ever been more true?? Ever?? I don't ****ing care how flashy and athletic the mother****er was. Boxing is about ADVERSITY, SETBACKS, and the DEPTHS OF HELL. Roy Jones is no ATG on my list. For nothing. Period. That's just me. No mental midgets on my ****. Warriors ONLY. Nice enough guy though.
Bingo, I rate jones as high as i do (40-45) on his skill and I think I'm being rather kind to jones......As you mentioned, I just can't get past the cops and the cab drivers jones fought when he had opportunities to step-up.....I don't get the jones obsession either on pure skills alone
So I guess we must discredit Sugar Ray for getting spanked by Terry Norris and Hector Comacho? or Ray robinson for getting spanked by Terry downs?
I don't like that argument. It's weak. Ever seen '12 Angry Men.' REALITY is alot more complex than you're trying to make it. Roy Jones had ALOT more left than those two LEGITIMATE greats - when he folded up like a house of cards after Tarver II.. FOREVER.. Good one. Roy Jones FOLDED after ONE real loss. FOLDED. There are all sorts of things wrong with that. Truly embarrassing. And seperately - don't even mention Jones with Robinson and Leonard. DON'T EVEN. They fought EVERYBODY.
u seem to be blinkered in your view.....if Jones stayed at light Heavy and got KOd by Tarver I would agree....but he was not the same fighter @ 35 let alone being the 1st fighter in history to move down 2 divisions to capture a light heavy championship. but its pointless explaining to an ignorant esb scribe
well im talking to someone who has Kostya Tszyu on their porofile... u probably rate him higher...ROFL
