Real feelings on Tito

Trinidad hit Mayorga with alot of power shots. Trinidad power shots that seemed to do far more damage at different times in the past. Mayorga even dropped his hands and let Tito get in multiple clean left hooks, and it wasn't until that point that Mayorga really got into trouble.

 

I miss Tito

 

Tito was a great fighter and physically he put his all into every fight, I personally think the handwrap theories are BS, especially given how he knocked out Mayorga who had a great chin up until Tito cracked it.

 

Mayorga seemed to take the shots well when he gave Tito free ones. He rolled a bit with them.

The shots later on though, right before the end of the round, and especially the right uppercut, hurt him. Mayorga showed a ridiculous chin that night. The body? Not so much.

Trinidad had plenty of fights where he had to hit the opponent with alot of power shots to get them out of there, it's not like he was ever a Julian Jackson type puncher. All his top wins that were T/KO's were all from alot of accumalation whether it be his wins over fighters like Campas,Carr,Vargas and Mayorga. They were never from one punch KO's like the way Hearns or Jackson use to have.:thumbsup

 

You think he took those well? I'll disagree. You could see they clearly rocked and knocked Mayorga off balance and hurt him waaay more than he probably would have wanted.

It's chilling to see Trinidad landing those shots, and then watch the Vargas fight.

 

Well he might've did that little dance to play it off, but he seemed alright to me, he came right back and attacked Trinidad.

But Tito ended up landing better shots at the end of the round that hurt him more. That uppercut had him dancing.

 

The amount of damage Trinidad could cause seemed to drop off the table after the Hopkins debacle.

don't mean to step in but it certainly did. but remember: at that point he stepped up to middleweight and barring the joppy fight, he had never fought that high before. at 147 he was a brilliant fighter. at 154, kept his power well. but 160 will be a small mystery forever. was joppy just chinny? were his hands loaded? was hopkins just THAT good? who knows. i think the move up in weight affected things to

 

I remember the people I was watching that with all generally agreeing that Mayorga threw away whatever chance he may have had of winning after he did that. It wasn't surpising that Trinidad was able to hurt him more easily after he had been banged around some.

 

We'll never know completely.

 

I just think it's depending on who the opponent is. I think if Tito would have fought Mayorga during that 2001 time frame the fight would have looked the same, and the same as if he would have fought Winky in that time frame.

Lets keep in mind Tito did'nt KO every opponent he fought heading towards the Hopkins fight. He did'nt knock out a 14-0 David Reid or a way past prime Whitaker.

 

He didn't have to KO every opponent. Doing serious damage, scoring knockdowns, ect, are all part of what I'm talking about. But these kinds of things can be open for interpretation.

 

It's OK for Tito to have had fixed wraps?

 

Same - he also got me into boxing in a lot of ways. Fun fighter to watch...
