Not at all. Ali was a voice of dissent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Pac just joining the parade in wanting to get into politics?
Not really, American has no true boxing hero who can be classed as a higher celebrity outside of the sport these days. Pacquiao to the Philippines is as Hatton is to England and Tito was to Puerto Rico
Philippine government army forces and its enemy, the separatist rebel forces will have an unofficial ceasefire... No battle/encounters when Pacquiao fights... .
No, it isn't. Ali was the most hated athlete in america until he retired and caught the Parkinson's. A better comparison would be to prime Tyson.
In regards to popularity he beats Ali if you are talking about Ali popularity in the UNITED STATES at the time he was fighting. THE USA disliked Ali for a long time. However WORLDWIDE Ali is one of the most famous sports stars of all time and this was when he was fightng.
As far as popularity he is similar to ali, especially for his era.....bob arum spoke of this during that hatton pressers....at first i laughed at old man bob, but now i'm starting to see it... In manchester hatton's hometown even filipinos where out in mass numbers.....he is a bit of a worldwide phenom similar to ali....then arum added by saying he is even more unique then ali in terms of his popularity.... Now as far as public persona....ali and pacquiao are different between night and day...
