So i played footy the other night, stretched but didnt warm up...... Yes within a minute i was crawling of the park, both inner legs in utter pain. This was Wednesday, took days off work also and of course no gym. Today, i see they are purple / black bruising with broken veins.....how serious is this ?.... yes its killing still. Done the hot baths, cold/hot packs........is there anyway i can still train the upper half etc ? Frustration is getting to me Cheers
Your first mistake was slow stretching(I'm guessing that's what you did) before fast and vigorous activity. Not only does it not warm you up, it does not prevent injury, and weakens your muscles for up to an hour. This, added with your lack of a warm up, was a major reason of your tear. The bruising signifies tearing and bleeding. To combat the inflammation, use ice, plently of it. No more stretching, please, for your own good. See a physician as soon as possible. And cease all physical activity. Then buy "Stretching Scientifically" by Thomas Kurz and learn how to stretch correctly, when to stretch, and how to properly and SAFELY attain flexibility.
Appreciate the replys, boxing wise my warm up is 15 mins skip then ten mins of side sides in/out around the hall with arms forward and back etc This footy, correct, i did some general stretches, not warm and PING. Though it feels good today, i been back at work and cant avoid ma groin getn stretched etc I will keep up the RICE.
muscle's main component is elasticity this is its ability to return to its original shape, when a muscle is cold it doesnt return to its original shape very well compared to a warm muscle, imagine stretching a cold bit of plastic compared to heated plastic, stretching cold muscles is so dangerous and the thought of it makes me cringe
