Jeffries from the Munroe fight versus the Dempsey that destroyed Willard. You got $1,000 Yankie dollars. Who are you laying them on?

Big ring, same rules that governed Jeffries-Johnson.

I would bet on Dempsey because ultimately I think that Jeffries would have to absorb a fair amount of punishment over a period of six rounds or so to get the job done with his particular style.

While he could get away with that against Fitzsimmons I think that against Dempsey it would be too much for any human body to take.

Dempsey just seems to have all the tools to undermine Jeffries game plan. He was obviously a wrecking machine with outstanding infighting skills and nearly impossible to tie up in the clinches.

Of course I could well be worng. Dempsey has his own set of problems here.

I see this as a very hard fight for Dempsey, due to Jeffries toughness,it could be that Jack punches himself out early.
Conversely I think Louis beats Jeffries pretty convincingly, whereas Dempsey blows out Louis quick.imo.

I like Jeff buddy to beat a wild and crazy punching Dempsey....... Jeff fought the better and more skilled dudes, inspite of only having roughly 20 pro fights..... Jeff rarely got tagged by haymakers and shots that winged from outer space..... I always thought Dempsey was too wild and high strung, and often left himself wide open for counters........ I'll go with Jeff over Demp...........

This is one fight where Jeffries' lack of chin checking against 200+ pound heavyweights doesn't come into play. :think

Wouldn't you say the difference between Fitz' punching power and Dempsey's is marginal? Fitzsimmons was dropping heavyweights like flies. Plus, he could still score a one-punch knockout very late in the fight, where Dempsey somewhat fades after 6...

Also, you say that Dempsey was almost impossible to tie up in clinches, yet the 175 pound Gibbons had no trouble whatsoever with it. I don't doubt a 215lbs Jeffries, who has an extensive wrestling background, could do it.

This fight is hard to pick, especially because of the lack of footage on Jeffries, but i'd slightly favor him (under the ruleset of the Jeffries-Johnson bout).

Well, Gibbons tied up Dempsey a lot of ties within taking the punishment that you speak of. He went the full 15 if i remember correct.

Plus, we know Jeffries takes on HELL of a shot. Dempsey's combination punching would indeed be new to Jeffries, and it would be interesting to see how he holds up.

On the other hand, Dempsey has never dealt with a man as big and strong as Jeffries who could also wrestle him around and take a lot of punishment while retaining his own big left hook after 20+ rounds. Jeffries is no old Willard or unskilled Firpo!

I think this one may be a lot more competitive than most think.
