    Authentic American is when one does not need to affix another nationality to his being an American as in Phil-Am, Korean American, Japanese American, Russian American, etc. You can say that they are American citizens but they're not pure Americans. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, he is an Austrian American. That's why he cannot be elected President of the US. Don't you know that Obama is not a pure American? His father is a Kenyan.

    My Filipino friend who has been living in the US for 20 years hates to be called an American.

    If you are born here you are an American. Its a nation of immigrants, there is no such thing as authentic American.

    Thats your friend. I've known plenty of filipino-AM's and none thought of themselves as not American.

    Well, you cited your friend, likewise, I can cite to you my friend. I can agree with you that they are American citizens but they cannot deny their blood is a Filipino, the color of their skin and features is Filipino and their parents and lineage are Filipinos. We are proud nation w/ rich heritage. That's why if you as those naturalized Americans who are formerly Filipinos, deep in their hearts they are proud Filipinos.
