12 is a stupid time. It's not very watchable. I'll stay up but I've got work the next day and I don't want to be staying up until 1 for the **** of it. 11 until 12 is much more do-able.
its a big kick in the teeth for us alright, we get no internatinal boxing at all these days and now channel 5 who sent me an email a few months back saying they didnt plan to expand their boxing coverage due to their budget get the ufc, it shows though how easy the ufc is to these tv stations, i mean if they get a boxing contract they are not guaranteed all the big fights and then customers will be pissed off they didnt get so and so a fight, the ufc will have the dates off all their events set out 12 months in advance and you know its the best level of mma around so to a tv company the ufc is so much less complicated than a boxing deal and dana white tries to make this even less complicated and less expensive as he is trying to do his best to drown boxing even further
This is no good for boxing on C5, trust me. However, it could give the mob at ESPN the kick in the nuts that they so badly need. ESPN's figures are rubbish and doing a boxing deal will help - Setanta was a blockbuster in comparison. Let's wait and see. Adios.
C5 used to show a boxing late at night. Cant remember the name of the show but it was VERY good. If the UFC has signed a deal thats good for the UFC... The interesting thing will be there time slot. If its not daytime then its not that much of a big deal. Boxing at least can be on evening television. Right now the UFC is waging an extremely aggresive marketing campaign. And of course when there name is on the end of everyones lips people by default start to take note irrespective of the product. Unless boxing promoters start working together boxing's going to loose out.
I think they had another boxing magazine show before that. I remember recording it on VHS. But this was at least 10 years ago.
Graveyard slot but hopefully it will be the first push in the channel putting the show on at a better time. To be honest I can not see channel 5 ever wanting to broadcast live boxing from a British promoter, the cost will not attract enough viewers or ad revenue. Espn is the sports channel so you would imagine them putting the sport on but I think Espn are just testing the water at the moment and the channel may be short lived, especialy if the Prem footy is a flop.
After all those ****ing e-mails I sent to channel 5 about boxing aswell! TV networks seem to some how believe that UFC is some kind of substitue for boxing?:huh wankers.
Dare I say it, I've found myself saying UFC when I mean to say MMA. UFC is implementing classic branding. Like a Vacum Cleaner being colled a Hoover and Coke being called Cola. The name becomes known as the product! 100%. White can make a fight like Machida-Rua, Couture-Nog, Rampage-Evans at the drop of a hat but not so of top boxers.
And even when a promoter has two of the top fighters at a weight or in divisions next to each other it is getting rare that they make the fighters fight.
why hurt one of your fighters revenue generating capabilities by putting him up against one of your own, sacrifice some one else's tomato can, thats the way these fookers think
