Of course we'll never know for sure, but all evidence suggests, and certainly if I was a betting man, Calzaghe would beat Dawson. Joe Calzaghe was the head and shoulders above anybody at 168, and he proved himself at 175 to be just as formidable.

If you don't see this, then you should watch more boxing, and then you will know.

How can anyone say that Calzaghe doesn't have rare physical talents?

I mean his foot speed and foot mobility is unreal. How many guys in the history of boxing at 168+ lbs have had his foot speed? I mean honestly? You can't teach that type of lightness of feet.

His hand speed is also very good. Not extraordinary but his combination punching is. The way he can throw punches in bunches. You also can't teach that type of hand speed at that weight.

His work rate and stamina is also freakish. You can work on it to some extent but some guys just have better NATURAL stamina than others. He seems to have a freakish amount.

he is lame. Even Mayweather tested himself more than Calzaghe as far as undefeated fighters are concerned. Cal is fast , strong , and a southpaw. His gift is being able to blind people with arm punches . In a wild windmill ; girl - like form that no " by the book" boxer can prepare for after they are already old .

Puhlease, imagine if Dawson had joe in the position Roy had joe in in round. How about Dawson hitting joe with a punch he didnt see coming. Joe would be getting finished by strings of 5 and 6 punch combos. There is a reason joe only came to the states for the senior citizen tour.

Same thing would have happened. Joe would have recovered and then proceeded to win the fight.

Great hand and footspeed and he could throw any angle of punch as fast as some people's jab. He used an offensive defensive style that was tough to deal with. He got right on people throwing alot of punches while waiting for a counter at the same time. Then he would duck it and load up with something that discuraged opponents from countering. He could fight backwards, inside or at range. He is one of the few guys who could have survived the 15 round fights from the previous generation.

    Handspeed
    Footspeed
Punching angles from any position he has his hands in
    Good to great chin
    Great recovery
    Great stanima
    And top notch boxing IQ

I'm not a Calzaghe nuthugger. I was actually somewhat of a hater. I'm just trying to be objective here.

Seriously? Anyone that watched the fight knows joe would have been kayoed by anyone that would actually wanted to end the fight.

If anything I would say the reason Joe was so impressive to me was because he was such a great boxer dispite the fact that athletically he was pretty average. He had good handspeed, but not unbelievable speed by any means. He was just very smart and had great reflexes but there are plenty of guys who were more physically gifted than him. You mentioned RJJ, I would say Dawson is a current guy that is far more physically gifted than Calzaghe ever was. Jean Pascal is another guy.
