Am not putting the whole article in as you will get the main jist http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/women/8243467.stm England women's European Championship final against Germany will be available across ALL BBC PLATFORMS on Thursday. The 1700 BST showpiece at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium will be screened live on BBC2 and the BBC website, where there will also be a text commentary. I cannot believe that a sport event of this 'size' is being put on BBC 2, with all the campaigning that ESB members, Bringbackbunce and Boxing News it feels like two fingers have been put up in front of all boxing fans... This is no showpiece event and Germany will probably walk all over them, so whats the point broadcasting this crap! If BBC could show the Super 6 tournament by agreeing one fee with Showtime that would be a massive step in the right direction or have measures in place should any well known amateurs turn pro with certain promoters and get them back on to free-to-air TV
I just like the way eurosport shows the competition then BBC jump in and show the final. Did they show any other games??? I agree it's a joke...but something i've come to expect of the BBC and other terrestrial channels and satellite channels.
bbc is crippled by political correctness and boxing is a big no no with them it aint ever going to change the only way it will get any exposure if they found a one legged gay boxer with a polish mum and a nigerian dad
Just checked all the games have been on Eurosport, not one on BBC.... Eurosport have made money by showing niche sport for age's.
Typical BBC...they jump on bandwagon....they do it time and time again. I really like Eurosport...they can be all over place listings wise but they show alot of stuff that goes under radar. Such as european boxing and also football tournaments that most channels don't cherry pick. I'm hoping the Super Six tournament gets signed up but i'm starting to see no light at end of tunnel with this situation.
eurosport support minority sports they provide a superb diverse range of sports and dont just jump on the bandwagon like the bbc the ironic thing is they have probably shelled out a decent sum for the game when they could have showed everygame for probably the same price if they had negoiated/shown an interest from the start
There may be a chance Eurosport getting the Super 6 if they sign a deal with the German TV company to rebroadcast it... I feel the UK Division don't have the resource's to deal direct with Showtime... I like Eurosport as well they are showing Mahir Oral v Alexander Sipos on the 18th They have alot of the UEFA Under-??'s on in the summer which is good to watch
Why would they have to deal with Showtime? Have Showtime purchased the international rights to all the fights? That would be a bizzare move...
How much did the BBC pay for this event. If you don't know, and I'm fairly confident you don't, how can you possibly comment?
When Setanta were around they bought the show or the broadcast (the JMM vs Diaz, Haye v Mormeck fight) Maybe they would operate on that basis but am not sure of the technicalities...
the cost wasnt his only point mate but whilst on the topic of cost if they spent even a pound of our money on this **** then its 99p to much
The broadcast is not the same as the rights to show the fight. Showtime can't 'sell' a UK broadcaster the right to show Froch v Dirrell because they do not own those rights (unless Hennessy has sold them to Showtime, I've no reason to believe this to be the case). The Haye v Mormeck tv deal was very late being done because Don King was the stumbling block - again the right to show the fight residing with the promoter unless they cede it to someone else.
Its not about the money... its that campaigning has been taken place and if feels as if BBC have taken no notice and it seems as they are jumping on the womans football bandwagon that is virtually non-existent in the UK. Sure the rights probably will not cost much to show the game but how can a level of football that is probably at the same level as the Blue Square Premier/ Nationwide Conference be broadcast and British/European/World level boxing, and will probably have a hell of a lot more interest can not be show?
it's only on so that the media can have a "1966" moment or two, if they win that is,.......... if not they'll be back to bein a bunch of fat lesbo's anyway
