Does Marquez have a chance against Mayweather?
Having not seen many of his fights I thought I would check out one of his "finest" recent performances.

    My impressions:
Marquez has a poor defence compared to Mayweather. He got hit with everything against Diaz.
Marquez footwork is not as agile as other fighters I've seen, namely Casamayor and Mosley.
His jab is good, but not great. Diaz's jab was sharper and more impressive in that fight. Best jab I've ever seen would be Hearns.
Combinations are fast, but Diaz was faster.
Power is good, but not devastating. Pacquiao, Diaz, Cotto all have more power.
Boxing skills are great, but I was more impressed by Diaz (probably because he had faster combinations)
Chin is tremendous....probably the best in boxing atm.

I don't see how Marquez could beat Mayweather based on what I've seen, but he certainly has what it takes to go the distance and maybe even frustrate Mayweather a bit.

JMM hits harder than Diaz..he also has far greater boxing skills as he places his punches better and wastes less energy. He's one of the finest counterpunchers of this era, but he's slowed down very noticably since his time at 126 and 130. I dont really see how he beats PBF either, though. Agreed on that part.

He won't beat Mayweather and isn't supposed to. The point is he is 37 and while he hasen't took as much punishment as most Mexicans at this point of his career, young guns like Diaz will be one step ahead in many aspects. PBF is 6 years older than Diaz but in boxing years is probably younger due to the amount of punishement taken. This is why I believe Mayweather will end up hammering Marquez. The big question is how much will the ring rust effect Mayweather and how will the jump in weight effect Marquez.

-Juan Diaz (if that's who you are referring to) does not have more power than JMM

-JMM's chin is not 'tremendous'. But I would say he has Great recuperating ability.

Those who think this is a mismatch are delusional.

    I pick JMM to win.

At the very least, it would be a competitive fight.

Marquez was slipping most of Diaz's punches the entire fight. Or catching them on his gloves. Diaz was busy, throwing a lot of punches that looked good for the crowd but very few were actually landing. Apart from a couple of nice ones early on.

Diaz has "more power" than Marquez? Wow. :patsch

Did you watch the marquez-casa fight??.... I find it funny when you say diaz impressed you!! You cant give marquez any CREDIT!!!! ..... My favorite part of the diaz-marquez fight was when diaz got knocked the F*** out!! He was out cold too.... JMM was at a size dis-advantage in that fight, he beat diaz by skill and heart alone!! If he beats mayweather it would also be by skill and heart! Because marquez is facing an up hill battle .... hes moving up 2 weight classes to take on the pound for pound king... and marquez is the older fighter of the two

The Marquez-Diaz fight was what probably convinced Floyd that Juan Manuel would be the perfect opponent . He saw Diaz hit Marquez without too much trouble. Floyd also saw a guy who would press the fight which is what Floyd loves. At the same time Floyd realizes that JMM is a considerably smaller man than himself, used to fighting smaller men. On top of all that, Marquez is highly regarded for his skills and respected for his valor. So, if not everyone notices that Marquez is two weight divisions smaller, the win will look great on Floyds resume.
Lets face it, when Floyd picks his own opponent it will never be the one that presents any considerable danger. Not since he fought Corrales years ago. Juan Manuel has no chance, everybody knows it, especially Floyd.

according to this "analysis" marquez shouldn't even have been in the ring with diaz... since diaz had the edge in jab, hand speed, combinations, power and overall skill
