i personally think fundamentally there is nothing that he cannot do inside of a ring..... he just has to beat enough big names to make the entire world believe this

Technically he's not that good but defenseless and one dimensional Chavez Sr. is the greatest boxing on earth, right?

I always think his handspeed is overrrated.

He has good defense though, nobody seems to solve his shoulder roll, elbow up, backward bending defense stance.

He's more skilled than talented, and I agree his talent is up there with Toney's. Floyd's one of the most textbook fighters ever. He's not quite as talented as SRL or Duran imo.

Skill level is awesome. In natural physical talent he's just a degree below the best of them. For example he defense is good, but it's not because he has the kind of head movement of a Pernell Whitaker, but because of the angles he presents to his opponents and the position of his gloves because he likes to block a lot of his opponents' punches.

No he is not the greatest.
However Chavez was defenseless and one dimensional???
Even PBF said Chavez had great defense. Of course his brawling style would nmake u assume he has no defense.

Anyways that defenseless one dimensional Chavez would turn that pretty boy into a drag queen.

Not to quibble, but he's so natural using his style that I think he makes it look "textbook". Anthony Peterson is a pretty talented guy, and watching him trying to use the shoulder roll against one of the last Mexican journeymen he fought was downright painful.

And then you've got all the people Sr. has tried to train to use it over the years. If it was textbook, I think Hatton and Oscar would have done better with it.

Id rather wait till his retirement to judge that But as of now he has to still be considered the most talented pure boxer in the sport.

Nonsense. If you watch his fight with Whitaker and how one-sided it was you will know that all of that is bull****.

Chavez blocked lots of punches using his forearm and guard as he charges in but most of the time he was wide open for someone flexible enough to punish him for his aggression like Whitaker did.

Tomato cans can make anyone look like a defensive genius and Chavez had the entire cabdriving, nursing and kidergarten dropout Tijuana community in his record. Don't be deceived by that.
