Yes the DM seemed to take something out of Hill, against Roy he had a year layoff and was forced to cut too much weight in too little time.
I just don't see it.I know Griffin beat him,but I firmly believe that Toney was better.I also don't believe that Johnson and Tarver were better than Jones,Gonzalez than Michelczewski and Taylor better than Hopkins. And I think Virgil was pretty damn good, but I just don't see him better than Toney.
people will always say - until the end of time - that a higher profile fighter is avoiding one with a lower profile. its the way of the world with boxing fans because its the easiest explanation for fans of fighters who havent cracked mainstream boxing audiences to justify why their fighter hasn't fought the best..... as soon as they hear one time that 'roy jones' (or whoever) is avoiding them - its very easy to buy that without being educated. just look at the thread starter... he said he didn't know much about DM but heard he was being avoided by roy jones. there's always a good reason why fighters you havent heard of never got to fight guys like jones - even with DM's skills.
Which is lame by all standards. Have this **** happen today between a Floyd,Pacman,JMM,Cotto and fans would be outraged.Since it happened to a Euro in the 90's during a time when they got NO RESPECT and no coverage some people let it slide. Had he not been stripped due to BS Boxing politics Roy would have had no choice but to either fight him or move to a different division. It just wouldnt be right to have to chase down belts you already won that are owned by people who already ****ed you over once.
no what isnt right is using that belt and a steady euro income to not chase a guy like jones.... euro fighters didnt get "screwed" in the 90s...just like they dont now. its up to the fighter and his promoter to back him against the bigger boys. holding a 'belt' is usually an excuse for euro fighters to not do this because they can fool beercan fans into thinking they are really a world champion. i still cant believe this **** is talked about on a popular boxing board where people should know the basics of how this sport is run.
Look at all the Euro's from supermiddle to cruiser that hold those paper ****ing belts. Dawson, Hopkins and Williams dont hold straps, do you think they'd lose to any pf those clowns? **** some Italian has a strap and Haye KO'd him in 7. Euro's are cuddled in this sport.
Will they loose ... that good question, the answer is only known when they start fight eachother. The proper way to get the answer is to fight the guy who keep the belt and prove it. Haye would not be considered the best CW if he wouldn't beat Enzo. Now Haye isn't considered best HW until he beat at least one of the title holders. Calzaghe wasn't considered best MW for hundreds of years until he start beating other belt holders. So your point that US fighters are sooo good and pretty looking that they don't need chase other guys who keep the belts is simply wrong.
Haye is an European :good So we may thank the WBA and IBF for no fight (RJJ vs DM). You are right, DM was a WBA, IBF and WBO champ at one moment and got stripped. If it hadnt happened RJJ would have must fought vs DM.
