Over on Ring Magazine's site James Toney discusses his greatest opponents in various categories.

For some reason, I've found that fighters aren't generally the best judge of their opponents abilities (or their own for that matter). What do you think of Lights Out's picks?

    Best fighter - Mike McCallum
    Best boxer - Mike McCallum
    Best puncher - Merqui Sosa
    Fastest Hands - Roy Jones
    Quickest feet - Michael Nunn
    Best chin - Tony Thornton
    Best jab - Mike McCallum
    Strongest - Sam Peter
    Smartest - Mike McCallum

He obviously didn't want Jones to get any more credit than he already did winning a shut out against him and making him look like an amateur.

I think he likes McCallum. :smh

James Toney's has always carried himself excellently everytime I've ever read an interview or such with him. Wonderfull boxer. Shame he still thinks Superman beats Batman.

I'm surprised he gave Roy the nod in any catergory given his feelings towards him.

McCallum was superb - I was a little surprised he came on top in so many categories given how many good/great fighters Toney has faced though.

Exactly! I remember seeing an interview with Wilt Chamberlain onetime and the intervewer asked him who he thought was the most dominant player in the game today and he said "John Stockton" And this was during the Michael Jordan era  He didn't want to admit Jordan was great because people were already saying Jordan was the greatest ever and he was jealous.

    The Bodysnatcher WAS that good.

Not surprised at all by that list.

ATG fighters always have a very obscure pick for the best puncher they ever faced. That just goes to show that punching power is a very natural talent and you either have it or you don't no matter what level of opponent you are. Although I doubt this guy hit any harder than Sam Peter.

In the interview he actually did say that Peter was the hardest puncher he faced but Sosa really hurt him and had him seeing triple for like three rounds.

He said he had to lose 40 plus pounds for the Jones fight which means he was in the 200s, and also he would've knocked out Roy had he not been so weight drained. Give him some kind of credit Toney, he was a hell of a fighter. :verysad

Yeah - when Oscar was answering the same questions, he picked Gatti as the hardest puncher he ever faced! Now, we all love Arturo but come on!!

Toney actually does say that Peter, being a Heavyweight, hit him the hardest but he considered Sosa the "better" puncher.

Hopefully Ring will keep doing these features because they're pretty interesting.

:good Especially with guys that have at least 10 years experience, its great. I thought he would've said Tito myself but as long as Oscar felt he beat you(and the judges disagreed) he won't give you any credit - ask Floyd.

I'm always going to respect a boxers opinion of what he's faced. End of the day, he's the guy that is in there seeing and feeling the things we don't.
